im trying this aswell, get the dremmel out

Dont bother with a dremel mate you will be there all day, go for a high watt speaker that will fit the rears from what I know (the bigger the magnet the better) I have messed about with all kinds of speakers my mate has a mondeo and his speakers are half the size, they still give a better sound than my 6/9's will ever do

This is my two pence

If you do a search on 6 x 9 s on here you will find quite a lot of mention. But fitting them in the back requires that you remodel the wheel arches and get a plate welded in (or so I've been told).

I'd be interested to hear about makes and models of alternatives that people have tried and liked though....

I've done this and, as stated previously, it was a bitch of a job. I had the original brackets "redesigned" to accept 6x9's and still ended up denting the plastic covering (nice white mark :headvswal ). Plus you need to push the wheel arch down to fit most speaker magnets (means bashing it with a hammer until the speaker fits)

The other thing to take into consideration from a "sound staging" point of view is that the rear speakers should only provide "fill in". 6x9's are not good for that purpose as they will be overpowering. It is much more important to have decent speakers in the front (I've got 6.5" round component speakers in the doors with the tweeters mounted on the top of the door card next to where the mirrors are). Get the balance right and you won't even need speakers at the rear.

So, it can be done [6x9's in the rear that is] but be prepared for some hard work.

Good luck,

Dan

to ne1 who says 6 by 9s are crap....http://www.worldsbestloudspeakers.com/

Forget the 6x9's Tomo, go with the 6.5 components in the front doors with tweeters an the A-post.

The only reason to put speakers in the rear is for passengers, do you ever sit in the back?

For sound quality in competition it should sound like the vocals are coming from the middle of the dash, so no reason for rear fill.

If you're at the meet on Sunday you can have a listen to my system, I've got about 10K's worth in the Bora and even if I do say so myself it sounds awesome :hyper:
