Hello everyone...

This might be a bit of a silly question, but can somebody please explain the different models of the 300zx!?

In my searches through autotrader, etc. I have come across the following descriptions and I must admit I am slightly lost as to what the differences are.

NISSAN 300 ZX Fairlady Sports

NISSAN 300 ZX Twin Turbo

NISSAN 300 ZX 3.0 V6 Targa

NISSAN 300 ZX T BAR

NISSAN 300 ZX 3.0 V6 Twin Turbo

I just thought you chose twin turbo or naturally aspirated.

All advice is appreciated!

Cheers.

NISSAN 300 ZX Fairlady Sports [name given to an import]

NISSAN 300 ZX Twin Turbo[same as the bottom one]

NISSAN 300 ZX 3.0 V6 Targa[naturally aspirated]

NISSAN 300 ZX T BAR[there all t-bar other than slicktops]

NISSAN 300 ZX 3.0 V6 Twin Turbo[twin turbo]

if this is for insurance purpose either choose turbo or naturally aspirated ;)

some of those listed are just different ways people describe them.

The main differences between each model available is Twin Turbo or NA, and 2+2(4 seats, long wheel base- most common) or SWB(2 seats, shorter wheelbase).

You will often get people calling Uk models fairladys, so dont rely on just the name.

Then you also have some SWB's with a Hardtop(also called slicktop) instead of Targa (also called T-bar).

All Uk models are Twin Turbo 2+2. Imports are available in a combination of those options.

Thanks for that.

I knew one was an import, I just didn't know which one!

Once again, thanks.

300zx Twin Turbo is also known as Fairlady Z in the japanese market

theres are two types of Twin Turbos either a short wheel base which is the 2 seater model or the 2+2 Longwheel base model. Both can be auto or manual...

Shortwheel base 2 Seater models have better handling and performance as there turbos are slightly bigger...and setup e.g [correct me if im wrong]

Auto twin turbo's kick out about 280bhp

Manual and Shortwheel base ones about 300bhp

Then you come to the Non turbos these also come in Shortwheel base or Long wheel based and are normally described as 300ZX NA MODELS... N.A [NATURALLY ASPIRATED]

If you ever decide to get one Go for the 2 Seater Manual Twin Turbo,,,,, But these are very rare... and are more expensive..

SWB TT have same Turbo's and Power output as the 2+2 TT..its the lighter weight of the car that gives the slight handling and performance edge (0.1 - 0.2 secs on a 1.4 mile)

According to Nissan Jap spec Auto's kick out more power than UK Auto's.

They kick out 280bhp std, unless they are american versions.

......

NISSAN 300 ZX 3.0 V6 Targa[naturally aspirated]

......

Not nessessarily, Targa is simply the T-Top (as in Targa Top), this could be either a NA or TT, although I'd probably beleive that it was a NA as it wasn't mentioned as TT in the description (if you see what I mean ;) ) No offence meant Greg

The LWB (or 2+2) handles better (more stable) at high speed and can fit more in the boot with the rear seats folded down.

The SWB (2 seater) is more nimble and lighter therefore quicker.

But they're not big differences.

So do UK spec which is the same as the Austailian and south African Models infact all R/H drive versions 280bhp

I thought only a few market's (America) manuals made 300bhp and the rest (including all autos) are 280? But I could be wrong.

Sounds like your Primera must look like a plasterer's radio. :D

Greg, is the pick in your sig one of those, look how much i can get into the boot of my Zed type pics?

Then you have to factor in the BHP loss of black ones, down to about 68 Brake at last count I think? and then BHP gain of 100+ for Red ones...

Obviously... ;)
