anyone here installed rollcage/harnesses ?

Getting serious about track days, esp the fact that Pukekohe - our local track - has some serious hairy high speed corners so it's rollcage time. I'm getting a half cage fitted w harnesses as a From Rowan To Rowan xmas pressie.

I'm wondering if anyone in the UK has installed one and have any "gotchas" to look out for.

I want to tie it into the roof but thats death to the interior so I'll probably hold off for a little while. The US design ones are crap, way too low across the roof line (probably even below the top of your helmet!) .

try www.safetydevices.co.uk

they are a uk firm, but you may have suppliers over there or could pay to get it shipped if you are that keen. These men sell a very very good quality cage which my friend uses rallying group N mitubishi evo.

{edit- how serious are you about track days, these are competition cages designed for a no interior car, as the the most effective roll cages if you have one designed around the interior, i twont be as strong as it could/should be. Have you tried using just front and rear strut braces to stiffen things up a bit, do you suffer problems on track that you could relate to body flex?}

I'm getting one fabricated by our legend motorsport fabricator to MSNZ standards, thats not a problem (and cheap too - would cost me less than the shipping from UK to NZ lol) but just wondering if anyone had had any probs with them - particularly where the rear diagonal bracing connects to the shock towers.

Warren - looks like you got a weekend of fitting parts then smile.gif If ye aint raving about more torque..more torque and better braking.. then well..off with your head!

he he well i hope so. I also got the traction controll so i have lots and lots of work to do biggrin.gif

Wow a minute guys, one word "INSURANCE" if you fit a roll cage without telling you ins co they will not cover the car.If you do inform them be prepared for a premium hike.

The premise insurance companies use is not the increased strength and safety as they should but does this mean the owners driving style be akin to that of a rally driver?

BEFORE you fit check with your second mortgage provider first. frown.gif

Aah, so I guess you are serious then smile.gif I didnt realise you were having one made up. Sorry.Do you suffer from body flex then? or is it purely for safety? cos track days over here arent usually driven that hard, its only in championships that you require cages.

Sorry I am of no help at all with your actual question.

Cage itself:

Safety and body flex. The Z is a big heavy car and if you roll it kiss your heiney goodbye, particularly at racetrack speeds. We've got one 110mph on the limit corner that a lot of people loose it on and the hairpin at the end of the back straight is renowned for claiming victims.

Insurance:

My insurance policy is "State any modifications over the value of $1000 [NZD] to the interior" which the cage isn't. Simple. If they want to argue the point they can and I'll be talking to the inusrance ombudsman.

I've had the car for nearly 4 years, am 24, and have not had ONE ticket be it speed camera or otherwise. Which is almost an impossibility in Auckland (new zealand) so they can't exactly say I'm a loony driver..

I've got racing harnesses. No cage though

Just fitted harness to standard mount points (rear of harness to rear seat mount points)

Fitted no probs, and angle of rear harness strap is acceptable for racing.
