Had this problem the other week but never got as bad as last night.

Im obviously running aftermarket HKS cone filter, and taking the car out in the wet causes some bad ass hesitation problems - as the 99spec nose just throws water into the filter. (i was supposed to be making a guard for this last week - didnt get round to it, now im suffering)

Im flying down the motorway in the wet, and eventually off down a side road for 5 miles then the car starts spluttering so bad it cuts out. I managed to get it to a car park and left it for about1 hour. When i got back i removed the air filter(it was soaking), put it ontop of the fan and idled the car for about 20 mins to dry out the filter.

Once i put the filter back on - the car would run perfect in every gear up to 2500 rpm, then i would have to either change gear or it would just splutter and hesitate real badly. This was enouth to get me home, with a flat out 56mph at 2500 rpm in 5th WOOHOO. When i had this problem before, it never did this "2500 rpm" cutout thing on me, it simply didnt perform past 4-5000 rpm, so im wondering if ive blown the AFM, or the ECU is on somesort of safety trip

The car has now been left overnight with the battery disconnected (to reset the ECU)in the dry - havent tried it yet.

Any help here would be most appreceated - thanks very much

PS. its an NA Manual

PPS. Sorry about the epic length of this post - Mike

You've probably knackered the MAF.

Sounds likely with the filter being wet. Happened to mine a few years back with a Blitz filter. The HKS filters are notorious for it.

Yep, the ECU goes into a safety "get you home mode" if it thinks the AFM is knackered. Think it limits revs to 2450 or something very close.
