It's getting close to respray time for my Zed so I'm starting to try and get some decent ideas. My Zed was silver (I say "was" as now it's mostly primer or filler!) and I've always liked silver cars so I'd be happy to stick along those lines but at the same time it would be good to go for something a bit different.

I've had an idea in mind for a while now, influenced believe it or not, by the Robocop films... :o...The colour of his body armour:

I've seen a few Alpha Romeos that had a sort of similar colour but the closest I've found so far is on a TVR, which to my eye looks amazing!

Without getting too bogged down in the whole "which colour is better/faster/brings world peace" debate :slap: , does anyone have any other suggestions along these lines? Or for that matter, does anyone know if you can buy TVR paint without actually owning a TVR?? ;)

Cheers,

Leigh.

That subtle TVR flip is about my limit!

Hi Leigh!

Remember our phone conversation a few months ago regarding said topic? I've looked into getting this TVR paint for my own car but the complete respray cost was going to come in at around £5k! And that's with knowing someone at TVR! It was mentioned that you'd be best off ordering excess paint for subsequent "touch ups" as it would be next to impossible to blend a flip paint from a different batch number in to existing work. In my personal opinion you should stick to a subtle flip (if that's the way you want to go). You want the car to look different but stock at the same time so going for something brash would defeat the purpose. Plus, you'd have to live with it ... Lucie may never forgive you! ;)

I need to speak with you regarding something unrelated - will call you later today.

All the best!

If you put laquer over any finish it will have a shine, you can add a matting agent to a solid colour 2 pack paint to give you the desired effect. the only problem with this is you are stuck with the out of gun finish, ie. you can't flat and polish any imperfections.

Thanks for the info mate, it's appreciated. :)

Had forgotten about that mate! :slap: :o :)

Yup, if I went for a flip it would have to be subtle as I don't go in for any of those loud red to purple to gold jobbies. Plus it's not in tone with my "factory fitted" style, they can look a bit dull when the sun isn't out, they cost a fortune to maintain and IMO are a bit too close to Chav for my liking! :D And you're right about Lucie!

The "Burning Ice" over a white base would apparently give a very subtle effect (it should be over black to achieve the full on flip or as the Americans like to call it "flop"!) but I'm just casting about for ideas. Alsa's Candy Concentrate colours look very nice as well...Bloomin' 'eck, I'm an artist! You'd think I'd be able to choose a damn colour more easily! :slap: ;)

Yep, give me a bell whenever mate :)

Cheers for that mate. The Shockwaves range is definately more subtle but it's the price that's the killer. If you need approx 4 litres to spray the car plus one extra for touch ups in the future you're looking at the sharp and pointy end of around £800 whereas the good thing with Alsa corp is that even after adding on Delivery charges, Customs charges, Hazmat fees etc it still only comes to a little over £400 . Which is pretty good! :)

Well, I finally made up my mind today on what paint I'm going for. Parking up outside the doctors I happened to see a Lotus Exige parked up in the nearby petrol station in the most fantastic gun metal/silver colour. So I've decided to forget the whole subtle flip/satin madness and go with the one colour I've always liked...silver/grey. I think it's going to be more aggressive looking and more in keeping with the overall style I'm going for (and will suit the idea I've had for the interior;)). So, with this in mind I'm currently researching my options...looking through the House of Kolor (Kandy) range as well as trying to find a paint I might like that's used by other car makers already. Hopefully I'll find something soon...;)
