It's getting close to respray time for my Zed so I'm starting to try and get some decent ideas. My Zed was silver (I say "was" as now it's mostly primer or filler!) and I've always liked silver cars so I'd be happy to stick along those lines but at the same time it would be good to go for something a bit different.

I've had an idea in mind for a while now, influenced believe it or not, by the Robocop films... :o...The colour of his body armour:

I've seen a few Alpha Romeos that had a sort of similar colour but the closest I've found so far is on a TVR, which to my eye looks amazing!

Without getting too bogged down in the whole "which colour is better/faster/brings world peace" debate :slap: , does anyone have any other suggestions along these lines? Or for that matter, does anyone know if you can buy TVR paint without actually owning a TVR?? ;)

Cheers,

Leigh.

Had considered something similar myself Leigh. The Alfa colour looks really nice but pretty weird when its dirty. I had a Manta not so long ago, which was Dolphin grey. I was about to have it resprayed a similar colour but pearl, but i wrote it off.

Have you thought about a pearl baby blue? I'll try and find a pic of a good example.

Scott

Here's a pic of the Manta. Not a very good one though. Dont know why im chewing my hand?

I think the TVR colour is called Reflex silver, yes it is a stunning colour but if its anything like the colour we've just done for a customer TVR will want about £800 per litre. Bearing in mind you will need about 4 litres for a colour change.

I'm currently looking into becoming a dealer for Alsacorp so will keep you all informed.

Holy cr@p Peter! £800 per litre!!

Looks like I'm definately going to have to find a similar alternative!

That silver flip sample from Alsacorp looked pretty damn close though...

Yep all their products look pretty cool, I really want to play with the chrome paint. If it works as well as they say it does, I think we may have solved the headlight problem

:D Get Pete to do you a nice Candy.........:x:

Very different but maybe a little bit toooo bling for my liking if I'm being honest! ;) That subtle TVR flip is about my limit! As a rule I don't really go for flips/metalflake etc. If this doesn't work out I'll go for a nice deep metallic probably.

Ok, I've been in touch with Alsa Corp and they can supply me with the "Burning Ice" paint from their Mystic range for a very reasonable price and advised me on the best base coat to achieve an effect that would be close to the TVR "Reflex Silver". However, I've been thinking of a few alternatives as TBH it's bloomin important, it's the last thing you do but it's the first thing you see. So...Satin paint

SatinFinishCarreduced.jpg

What do we reckon? Not thinking black particularly, maybe a mid-dark silver/blue/grey mix. I like the subtle TVR-esque flip but the Satin looks quite aggressive and no-nonsense while still being different, not to mention the fact that it would be easier to touch up, as the car is used on a regular basis. Thinking maybe a Matt coat with a laquer on top to achieve the Satin look and avoid the inherent problems with using Satin paint without any coating: if you press against it, it can go Matt, if you rub it, it can look shiny.

Like I said, what do you reckon? Good idea/bad idea?

Leigh.

If you put laquer over any finish it will have a shine, you can add a matting agent to a solid colour 2 pack paint to give you the desired effect. the only problem with this is you are stuck with the out of gun finish, ie. you can't flat and polish any imperfections.
