Air Con display.... Differences

Does anyone know when the Air Con display changed from the two sets of digits to the temp and graphics display... The display on my '93 Zed, Jap Import... Has the Temp at the top and under that a broken single digit that changes when the Hi & Lo buttons are pressed... I know most cars even Imports have the Temp at the top of the display and the Fan blade and Arrows graphics at the bottom... This is driving me potty... I wanna get it fixed while it's still under warrenty.... Any ideas...

1992 I believe, late on, the changeover from the MkI to the MkII.. (as in, mid '92 onward should have the fancy icons..)

Incidentally, anyone know if the binnacles are a direct fitment? biggrin.gif I imagine not since I belive the later models had more options than just air/defrost

Is that what you were going on about in mine AndyP me lad???

Kyle,

Didn't you believe me ..... wink.gif

It's a Series I vs Series II thing - I'm certain of it. (Az knows his stuff!)

Also, it may depend upon whether the a/c is the auto or manual system. I think that the manual system was dropped for Series II.

Tim's is UK 90/91(?) and is manual a/c - Series I

Mine is Jap '92 and is auto a/c - Series II

Just had another thought - is your car REALLY a '93 ? Check the chassis number and the date on the seatbelts ....

Careful.. Technically there are three aircon systems..

Manual air con - a big knob that you turn to select hot vs. cold

Series one climate control - select the temp etc, but no fancy icons for vent position etc

Series two climate control - same as above but lots more twiddly bits.

Thats how I understand it anyway - not sure the manual air con ever came over here. But I believe 1999 spec had this!

Az

Andy..

Yeah I did believe you but I posted this so that my dealer could see that I wasn't filling him with S**t....

I reckon whoever owned the car in japan has had a problem with the display and replaced it with anything he could get hold of, That being the wrong one, I.E series I type.

Anyway, Thanks everyone for your help on this... It's one of those things that no ones ever seen before.... (Just my luck)..

While we are here - can anyone tell me if the words "Rec", "Econ" and "Off" should light up on the UK spec Air Con unit?

Cus mine don't!

Yep, when selected they do!

By the way, mine is an Auto Air Con system on my UK 1991 but not the fancy icons you lot are going on about wink.gif

I don't mean the light in the middles of the button. I'm on about the words themselves because the word Air Con lights up and so does the windscreen icon.

Kyle,

check your seat belts as ANdyP suggested, just in case yor car is not a 93.

Mine was suppose to be 94, and turns out it was manufactured in 91, and registered in 92.

Alot of fraud is going on with importers altering the Jap Deregistration documents.

If you email your chassis number, I can check the year of manufacture.

Leigh.

We should document all the differences between UK/Jap/US spec and Series I & II.

I have made a start on this, so if anyone has some of their own information then forward it to me and I'll put something together.
