Thanks for the link to the diagram...Brill  , Will let you know later if it works..

I was wondering how many peeps have got speed converters installed, or does everyone leave it in Kph????

SO WHO IS MPH, AND WHO IS KPH...In a Jap

I'm MPH, but done properly ;) Mines got the MPH clock fitted and had the ECU chipped properly (Excellent work Andy   )

So now it should go a little faster, but then it went fast to start with, well it would because it's RED

Mine used to have a convertor but I changed to a Uk speedo cluste instead.

I think it's possible to convert a jap speedo to UK just by changing a resistor or two, then of course you need to modify the ECU as well to remove the speed limiter.

Doesn't do it 'properly' though... mixes up the signals to speed-sensitive equipment (eg HICAS).

Yes, it does, because it just divides the signal from the speed sensor by 5/8ths (or something very close to that). But it is a compromise and there's no substitute for doing the job properly.

  Cut out all the red ones not the BLACK

Wire is as follows

Locate the white instrument panel plug and cut the righthand row 2nd from bottom (l.Brown/Blue)

Early models - middle plug 3rd wire Yellow/Blue

Well guys, i fitted the converter today, and it works fine, the delimiter works aswell.

I done a comparison with my sat nav speedo and my car speedo is 3/4Mph slower, so i'm happy about that.

Also changed two coil packs that i thought were playing up, Installed a newer PTU, cleaned all the connections and used some cable ties to hold them alltogether, Now the car is as smooth as silk, just come back from a 40mile road test and i am grinning from ear to ear.......how long does it last .........

Thanks for the help

Why is it that my red Z feels faster, smoooooother, and much better than my old black Z, that was 4 years newer?????

i`ve also just fitted one of those speedo converter/de-limiter bought off e-bay. tested it and all ok. hav`nt tested the de-limiter side of it yet thou ! but the speedo seems to be about right. can`t afford one of those sat navs to compare it (posh git!!). mine seems to jump up to 20mph instead of the needle slowly rising, fine after that, is this common? and will the odometer now start to measure in miles?.......

odometer is now in miles jumping to 20 could be just a little looseness of the conections causing a higher resistance

  • 1 month later...

guys the link does not work im currentyl doing my delimter i bought off the internet on my 1990 twin turbo 300zx (automatic) is says on the instructions

"LOCATE THE WHITE 8PIN INSTRUMENT PANEL PLUG AND CUT THE RIGHT HAND ROW 2ND FROM BOTTOM WIRE WHICH IS BROWN/BLUE"

I have a GREEN/RED wire here what should i do ?????

It was a green/yellow wire on mine.

update on speed converter :-

After a couple of weeks of it beign installed i have now removed it ? my power steering keeps going heavy and my speedo stops working, but if i stop the car, switch off, wait 5 mins, re start, everything is back to normal, so i have removed the converter to see if it still does it ?.

Will keep you informed.

HeXaKing. Where did you get this converter from ? And how much did you pay ?

Got mine from Luke at Z Centre. No cutting of wires, just a bit of soldering. Works with no problems.

FILL, got mine from a company on the net that sell conversion kits for imports, ie, speedo's Frequency expanders for radios, and all that sort of stuff.

It seemed to work fine for about 3 weeks, but this last week its gone wrong every day? i disconnected it this morning and its been fine all day ?

Thinks i will get some UK clocks........Anyone got some they dont want ?

Got mine from Mike at MJP, It's a solder on job but easy to do, did it my self.

It's been on the car for two years and is spot on with the sat-nav.

Thin it was about £60. Well worth it just to get rid of the bonging.

Chris..

HexaKing: Mate iv got the same problems. My steering goes and comes back after switching the car off.

The speedo does not go over 60-70 kph and then the needle bounces.

The motors feeling weird anyone know the probable cause.

I bought this unit off the inter from the following guy who has tried being as helpfull as poss ..

What could i have done wrong

I also have a super chip or a chip which apparently increases the 300zx to abut 60bhp. will installing this chip over ride the limter on my twin turbo???? as it goes in the ecu?

I had mine supplied and fitted at MJP. That way I got a mileage certificated dated and signed for any future mileage verification.
