A rattling comes from the engine at idle when the clutch is out. I have heard thats its the clutch going, but its fine and has never slipped.

Any ideas of what it is?

Clutch release bearing me thinks.

gearbox input shaft bearing more likely than clutch bearing.

 

clutch up, gearbox turning with engine

 

clutch down, release bearing pushed into clutch, if is was going to make a noise then nows the time...

Ignore my ranting, didn't realise this was a Manual and Clutchy type thing! Doh!

Well racing Iain at 175mph with a slipping clutch can't have done the Clockwork Cucumber any good to say the least!!! LMAO

Ooops. When the clutch is in it rattles. Sorry. Is it hard to change the bearings?

He told me that he lent it to someone and they thrashed it and the clutch has completely given up the ghost. Won't even go into reverse now !!!

Well not so much hard to change...more if you're gonna replace it I think they recommend you do the clutch itself at the same time!

 

At least that's what I had to do on a 2.8infection Caprice a while back...in my youth

This is not going off topic as we are still talking about clutch related Z problems etc.

 

But Johnny was on about getting a triple plater wasn't he? I've also heard that he's been using a Soup of his mates as a big project aswell...could Ginger Zpice be deffecting???

 

 

Think it's an Evo, not a Soup. Sez it's on rails round corners, but not outrageously fast ...

It's an Evo VI and damn slow too. He was throttling it down into 3rd and taking off, I wasn't even taking the Zed out of 5th and keeping up...
