Help - Dodgy drivers side window switch!

Anyone ever had or have the same problem, where you can open the drivers side window and then the switch decides to play dead for a bit and let you shut it when it feels like it?

Did it to me tonight just as I was leaving the gym and as it was just trying to rain. I have visions of having to sleep in a petrol station.

Anyone had to replace the unit or is the problem a relay?

Hi Cos mate hows it going?

the drivers door operates on that auto option as well as normal operation (manual) if it is the auto part not working there is a seperate control unit fitted in the door below the arm rest part.Breakers is favorite as its bound to be a dear part. However if it the manual operation it will more likely be a dodgy switch or failing that the conector could of worked loose in to the switch either way its a door panel off. Have a write up for door panel off if you want it. Jeff TT

How's this for unlucky.

I used to have a Ford Grandad 2.8 Ghia and I had the car booked in for it's MOT.

Decided to drop the car off at the garage the night before and pop the keys through the letter box.

Arrived in the pissing rain and pitch black and couldn't see out the window to park. Put the window right down and it wouldn't go back up!

Had to drive about 6 miles home getting soaked as I couldn't leave it like that and took it back the next morning.

Turned out the switch contacts had gone.

What are the chances of that happening? (as Harry Hill would say)

Hi Jeff, not bad thanx you,

The switch has a problem with both the manual and auto up part. Down works fine but you have to plays NISSAN's 300ZX symphany on the up part to get it to shut and then it only does it when it wants to.

Sounds like you had a bit of a halmet moment to me Chris! Unlucky mate!

I thought I was going to have one of them tonight too.

...mine did the same, permanently. Checked it all out in the passenger door, electricity right to the motor, but the window would not shut. So, replaced the motor (2nd had off this forum)and still no joy. Checked both sets of switches - as best you can, they seem to be ok, so finished up wiring in a fake earth for the passenger side motor. Now I can close the passenger side window, but only from the passenger side switch. When I try using the drivers side switch, I hear a click from what sounds like a control solenoid, but I've searched and can't find - what might be my original problem ie this faulty? solenoid. Anybody got any ideas as to where it may be - tried all the usual places.

cheers

Jack

They're great these cars aren't they? First thing I noticed with mine when I got it back! Driving along behind AndyP, needed a cig(don't normally smoke during the day) after the stressful few days I'd had. Light up, go to open the drivers side window and nothing! Just clicking etc.

I had this on my Saab, it was to do with the regulators on that...the teeth wear down causing all sorts of problems opening and closing and then failing all together.

Oh well, nice to be back in Z ownership territory wink.gif
