I was reading through a couple of posts about tax, speed cameras and congestion charging etc and thought this might be interesting.....

 

I recently converted my front garden into a new driveway - see pics.

 

When the council bloke came round to check out my intentions before I had it done he assumed I would be getting rid of the existing driveway ! WTF I said ! That's how I get a car into my garage - why would I get rid of that ?

 

"You're only allowed one driveway per household these days" was his reply !

 

Basically the local authority don't want us to be able to park off the road......wait for it.......because they are going to introduce a Controlled Parking Zone scheme round here !! £60 - 70 per car to park outside your own front door !!!

 

I live in the middle of suburbia - there is NEVER any parking issue around here - there are no shops and no stations for people to go to near here and therefore the only people who park on this road are the people who live here or are visiting the same.

 

He agreed to make an exception for me because I applied for permission the same week that the legislation came into effect - otherwise tough. "I don't make the rules" was all he could offer ! To**er !!

 

So the only conclusion is that they don't want us driving ON the road AND they don't want us parking OFF it !!

Cant have a go at the planning guy, like he says, he has no controle over what the tossers in charge decide, he just has to enforce it.

 

What a sh1ty idea though. Sure they sit there all year and think "How can I f*ck over motorists this year?"

Also look on the bright side, your house is now more expencive/desirable as you have toll free off street parking. ;)

I got teh same problem. not teh parking charge.

 

I had a low kerb so we could easy get on and off the forecourt.

The council decide to put in a puffin crossing (puffin, pelical, albatross sparrow these guys realy are twats) and I didnt know about it till the day I woke up to the sound of a cango drill. Looked out the window and a fooking great lory was parked accross my drive taking upteh pavement.

 

Figured what the hell. got the car off, came back in teh evening and there was a 5" kerb across my drive and they wont put my ramp back

Ha ha yeah we had an Estate Agent round earlier in the week and she's a self confessed petrol head. She asked if the car was included in the house. I offered to settle her bill if she sells the house by giving her the car !!

 

She drives one of those funny little Nissan Figaro's - it's bright pink !!

The other thing you may have to watch, is coucils can be funny about you driving over "Their" pavement slabs to get to your parking area.

 

If they do, just block off the current opening in the wall, and open up the side where your drive is for access.

I know what you mean - unfortunately the ground drops away to my house (can't really tell in the pics) so I couldn't open the drive the other way.

 

I got the letter from the council saying they would be doing the crossover - another rip-off price of £700 !!! For three sq yds of concrete FFS !!

.....they con 10 year's new parking permit off of you (£700 for the drive), but surely in London the idea should be to ease congestion. The fewer cars parked on the road would do this, wouldn't it??
