I have a leak from the front of the car, its dripping out from behind the front lower pulley, I thought it was the crank seal but after changing this at weekend realise its not, my next thought is that it is either the oil pump gasket or the regulator/relief valve seals.

Can I remove the oil pump with collection pipe without removing the sump or do I have to remove the sump, has anyone on here done an oil pump exchange with the engine in?

Any help is much appreciated-

I would have thought you will have to remove the sump, not only because of the oil pick up pipe but there is a rubber gasket that sandwiges between the pump and sump that would be a mission of a job to get back in.

I guess you will have to drop the front cross member that will give you enough clearance to get the sump off

Cheers john, I suspected the sump would have to come off, i've looked at the manual so I know how it comes off but I just wasnt sure if the pickup pipe needed accessing from the sump, thanks I now know to allow another half a dayfor the job!

Deffo gotta remove the sump Dave :( What a lovely job getting to all those sump bolts... lol

Tis not too bad a job lol, done it many times now lol

OK Thanks guys

what about the leak do you agree its gotta be the pump or its valve?

TBH I can't really see it being either  The only part of the oil pump exposed to the outside world is the housing, so unless thats cracked.... Where exactly is the oil? Its more than likely coming from the rocker covers...

Thanks Andy this is what i'm after (someone who can save me stripping the front down again for fa).

My point is that with the front covers off etc there is no sign of oil running down from anywhere, but at the time a small amount was behind the pulley on the casing (when it was removed), when its built back up it drips from the casing directly behind the pulley, as if its the front oil seal, I cant think of anything else thats beind there, and if it was a rocker cover or cam seal surely you would have an oil trail somewhere?? at the end of the day I'm inexperienced with zed engines but there were two other guys there with no idea of where it was coming from either.

if I cant identify where it is coming from I am concerned I will end up having the car tied up waiting for parts when I eventually do find it.

If the oil leaked from a rocker cover on the inside (into the V) could this work its way to the front and down to behind the pully unseen from the front?

Thats exactly what I'm thinking Dave. The rear cambelt covers prevent you from seeing any oil running down the front of the engine - unless its the camshaft seals that go. If its the oil pump gasket then it will have to be coming from the top edge and running down the front... Only other thought is the crank is scored/damaged and is allowing oil past the inside of the seal - or of course the oil pump casing and getting past the outside of the seal....

Yeh, I hear you mate, ok, this gives me a little more direction, thanks again
