Well today I had to have my 11 1/2 year old German Sheperd put to sleep, to say I'm devastated is an understatement!!! She's had loads of problems over the years with vets saying she shouldn't have been able to walk when she reached 6/7.

I got up this morning to find her not having any energy at all and then she basically had a stroke in my arms. I rushed her to the vets who done a scan which revealed she had a tumour on her spleen which had ruptured, filling her stomach with blood. This inturned caused the stroke. I had a very tough decision to make which was to let them operate (less than a 10% chance) or to let her go. I know I've done the best thing by her cos of her age etc, but I'm gutted, she was my little angel :(

Thanks for listening,

Vijay

sorry to hear that mate, i'm gutted for ya.

 Sorry for you M8 had the same 2 years ago but have got Muttley the Lab now can't live without a dog. More faithfully than the x wife & less trouble than my kids.

This is terrible mate  Had a similiar experience :(

My thoughts are with you.....

Really sad to hear Vijay, I lost the dog I spent my childhood growing up with a few years ago the same way.

Its devestating, especially when you have to make the decision yourself. Dogs really are mens best friends.

Heart goes out to you mate.

Vijay, I am real sorry to hear that as I know what that dog meant to you, to have a German Shepherd live to that age is a fair achievement IMHO.

We had one a few years ago and what a dog he was, he got to seven years old when his liver failed without any warning. The vet done all he could however we had to do the best thing for him and have him put to sleep.

Dogs really are mens best friends.

Which Is why they rely on us to make the right decision for them.

Which you did.

Many many years ago since I carried my faithful old Samoyed out to the car for his last journey. Still get upset about it even now when I see stuff like this.

Have no wish to think about it.

Deepest sympathies for you.

Get out the photos and remember how she was.

Alan...........

Gutted for yer mate.

You made the right desision albeit a sad one.

Take care fella

sorry to hear of your news vijay, nothing worse than loosing someone you love :(

Sorry to hear this vijay, its a horrible decision to have to

make, you chose the right one though....cruel to be kind.

Had the same decision with both my cats, two brothers.

1st lived to 8yrs...died of a tumour in the throat

2nd lived to 12yrs...died from a annuerism (?)..back end

completely gave way, instantly paralysed.

Had to make the same heart moving decision both times

people who have never owned dogs just dont know what its like to lose one. ive had dogs in the family since i was born and have had to go through 5 of them being put down. one of ours, Jodie, is getting on a bit and has throat cancer so it'll be her time soon. Don't worry mate, you've done the right thing, believe me.

I've gone though this a couple of times now mate, and I really feel for you. She's happier now, the pain has gone, and she's still in your life even if only in spirit.

sorry for your loss

Sorry to hear that Vijay, I know how you feel mate, I had to have my german Shepard put down jsut before christmas, she lost her hearing at the age of 10 and legs started to go, she could no longer walk at the age of 14 so after another agonising 6 months we had to let her go :(.

Vijay, so sorry to read of the loss of your beloved companion. Think of the good times, it helps.

sorry to here that mate broke my heart when 1 off my wolfhounds had to get put down a few years ago. attached something for ya mate.

Sorry to hear that Vijay, really is a hard decision to make.

I had almost an identicle story to sideshow bob. Not nice.

I'm so sorry to hear this mate.

I know exactly how you are feeling, had to do this three times now. I can remember each one like it was yesterday, so I'll have to make this quick.

The only thing that will make this easier to bear is the knowledge that she is no longer in any pain and she will always be a part of your life.

The sheer emptiness and the routines you shared are harder to overcome, but time will help.

(sorry, getting slushy now)

Graham.

Know how you feel mate, I lost my Basset Hound Duke summer 2003, he was about 15 and was getting hard for him to walk etc, but he had to be put down because he was in great pain while I was in hospital following an accident, my sister came and told me while I was in the ward, Im not ashamed to say that I sat in the hospital garden and cried solid for two hours.

You will get through it, Duke was the third dog (all Basset's) I had lost but even though you feel totally gutted when they go I wouldnt not have had any of them for the great time they give you when they are around.

Julian Clary (of all people) said on a television programme once that it was one of God's greatest tricks that dogs have such a short life compared to humans.

All The Best

Mike
