Im the type of member you like the least...

A "dreamer" (in other words I don't have a motor yet)

I am serious about getting one. (aren’t we all)

Even thought I have never sat in one, let alone driven one!

I LOVE the look of the car, "old skool", yet at the same time cutting edge, without looking dated.

SO .... I have a couple of questions. No the normal "Why should I buy one?" rubbish. I have to make that decision myself.

Q1. How do the T-bar tops work?

I currently drive a Honda DelSol, with the automatic electric roof. (I.E. im a lazy git) The boot rises vertically, the roof slides into the boot, then the boot drops. Pretty James Bond. But at the end of the day, very lazy. So, can you store the two removable sections from the roof in the boot? And how easy are they to remove/replace?

Q2. Im a short skinny guy. Im going to see a Z32TT SWB at the weekend, but before I do, im trying to find out if im going to be 'swallowed whole' by this massive car! Am I going to look like a child in a Monster truck?

So ... Who is the 'smallest' (Shortest/lightest) driver here?

Yup ... A couple of mad questions ... But im not exactly a conventional guy :-)

Q1. How do the roof sections work?

Q2. Is a 5'8", 9 stone 26 year old going to be lost in a SWB?

Cheers :-)

yeah .... may have to give it a miss as it's a red one .... I mean they ARE slower than other colours .... :p

Right :-)

I HATE red cars, always have. Personaly I think any car in red, would look better in a different colour.....

Just my opinion.....

Oh and on a side not (just in case that DOESNT kick off a discussion) ...

There is NO SUCH THING AS FERRARI RED!!!! IT IS FERRARI YELLOW! ;-)

Ah, A man of good taste, welcome to the madhouse, good luck in your search for a zed, and a little advice, if mrogers can drive a zed and not look small, you got no worries!!

:nana2:

Roof is stored in the boot in targa bags, takes about 5 minutes to take off, 2 minutes to put on.

5 minutes??? do you have a cup of tea between sides?!?!

more like 30 seconds or so :p

The tops should go into the bags if they are still with the car.:D then you place them in the boot bud.

As for a 94, good luck mate, alot of us dont like the hicas and just have it by-passed or removed completely, but this is up to you and how you feel when you get to drive one with it on and off mate ;)

yeh who needs hicas :nana2:

steve

Slower option?

Not sure what you mean.....

Is there truth in the 300 bhp drops to 280 bhp on the newer models?

Welcome to the forum...... :)

IIRC the very latest ones (ie last couple of years in Japan & USA - 98+, maybe) lost the variable valve timing owing to emissions regs. These cars were 280bhp as opposed to 300bhp.

UK cars were all quoted as 280bhp.

I'm 5 ft 7 & 11 stone, I don't look lost in my ZX - the seat adjusts to a multitude of shapes/sizes - they are really spot on for finding the perfect driving position. The ZX is the only car I've had that I could drive all day and not feel uncomfortable

Get one - you'll love it...................must be red for the full ZX owing experience though

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

"alot of us dont like the hicas" - Sgt C

Why is that .... and how exactly do you bypass it?

I was going to go for a 94 because i was under the impression the HICAS on the older models were hydrolic, and problematic....

do only 'specific' models have the HICAS... and if so, how easy is it to bypass hydrolic/eleccy versions of it?QUOTE]

Anyone?

Im presuming these are starting to be 'standard' newbie questions. From all the data im collating, I was thinking of doing a little QA you could put on the site, after I buy into my membership aggreement, of course :-)

Or does one all ready exist?

:wack:

The FAQ link at the top has some info

This link is interesting too: http://www.fiendation.com/300zx/300zxfaq.htm

Yup ... disected fiendation ....

But I can't get the FAQ to work on this site.... Do I need to cough up some cash first?

Anyone want to comment on my HICAS question?

Tris this....... http://300zx.co.uk/tech/BuyingZ.htm or http://300zx.co.uk/tech/

Also HICAS is easily disabled, either just bypass it by linking the wiring (detailed discription i know) ot take it off completely.

Id say wait for a more technical person on that though! :D:D:D

Many people disable the Hicas as they prefer the feel without it, or becuase the associated Hicas bushings are worn.

There are differnet ways to disable it, but the simplest is a case of unplugging the connector under the bonnet and and bridging the connector. (a 5 second job).
