Im the type of member you like the least...

A "dreamer" (in other words I don't have a motor yet)

I am serious about getting one. (aren’t we all)

Even thought I have never sat in one, let alone driven one!

I LOVE the look of the car, "old skool", yet at the same time cutting edge, without looking dated.

SO .... I have a couple of questions. No the normal "Why should I buy one?" rubbish. I have to make that decision myself.

Q1. How do the T-bar tops work?

I currently drive a Honda DelSol, with the automatic electric roof. (I.E. im a lazy git) The boot rises vertically, the roof slides into the boot, then the boot drops. Pretty James Bond. But at the end of the day, very lazy. So, can you store the two removable sections from the roof in the boot? And how easy are they to remove/replace?

Q2. Im a short skinny guy. Im going to see a Z32TT SWB at the weekend, but before I do, im trying to find out if im going to be 'swallowed whole' by this massive car! Am I going to look like a child in a Monster truck?

So ... Who is the 'smallest' (Shortest/lightest) driver here?

Yup ... A couple of mad questions ... But im not exactly a conventional guy :-)

Q1. How do the roof sections work?

Q2. Is a 5'8", 9 stone 26 year old going to be lost in a SWB?

Cheers :-)

Welcome :D

Q1. Dead easy to remove, press button, pull little lever and lift. They then fit in the boot, and "fitting is a reversal of removal".

Q2. Cant answer that one, but never thought of the zed as a big car, and the SWB is even smaller :D

.....but we do have VERY mixed range of weight and sizes here :wack:

First of all, welcome Slim!. I was the opposite of yourself, being tall I was woried I would not fit in the cockpit, but the chairs go back quite a way and also in the other direction. Bet you get a big dirty grin accross your chops when you first sit in one, it really is a nice driving position and you feel like you are in something special. All IMO of course.

PMSL, are you trying to start a fight? ;)

you're funny getting swallowed whole by a zed

I'm about the same dimensions as you and when i first saw the zed I though wow...... though I'm a woman so i thought it would be too big for me, got in the car... i didn't need to drive it i knew it was for me

and i have found it a lovely car to drive adjustable seats in lots of ways

Just get in one get comfortable take your time and go drive see how you feel  :hyper:

How do and welcome........

Q1, as Legrath states

Q2, Im a fatty and ive got a SWB slicktop but on the other hand Barks (b19rks) is the smallest bloke youve ever seen, 5ft 6" and 8 stone and he has a 2+2 and he can see fine, so youll be fine bud.

and i have found it a lovely car to drive adjustable seats in lots of ways

Sounds like you have been testing them quite throughly!, lol ;)

Di, your car up and running nicely now..??

Answer to:

Q2. Is a 5'8", 9 stone 26 year old going to be lost in a SWB?

:D Nope you ain't :nana2: :nana2: :nana2:

Jeez!

Didn't expect quite a fast response from so many people!

Cheers for the warm welcome. Like I said, im still in the VERY early stages for looking at them. I LOVE the way they look. Im thinking of having a what is a 'silly' car in a lot of peoples eyes (i.e. the 300ZX) for a year or so, before I 'properly' settle down with the wife and end up buying an MPV baby carrier :-(

Q2. seems to be answered pretty well... cheers :-) Made me think this is a little more viable for me....

I'd like a 'low mileage' (50-70K) 94 TT SWB in anything other than red. What kind of price (in the current UK market do you think I will have to pay? I kind of have a 4K budget. think I will be able to do it?

The reason I want a 94 is for an L plate (I have a private plate I'd like to put on) and also the pass airbag and electric HICAS ..... Good idea? Or are the 92-93 just as stable/good

Q1. is still bothering me 'slightly' ...... do the removable sections 'slip in' anywhere inside the car? Boot floor lifts up and stores? .....

Once again, cheers for the welcome, and thanks for the swift replies

Roof is stored in the boot in targa bags, takes about 5 minutes to take off, 2 minutes to put on.

Targa roof panels store in the boot under straps and if they're still with the car you should get proper targa panel storage bags to put them in.

Best thing to do is go and view a Zed and get the owner to show you around it ;)

Oh yeah - blue is the best colour :D

Jeez!

The tops should go into the bags if they are still with the car.:D then you place them in the boot bud.

As for a 94, good luck mate, alot of us dont like the hicas and just have it by-passed or removed completely, but this is up to you and how you feel when you get to drive one with it on and off mate ;)

"alot of us dont like the hicas" - Sgt C

Why is that .... and how exactly do you bypass it?

I was going to go for a 94 because i was under the impression the HICAS on the older models were hydrolic, and problematic....

do only 'specific' models have the HICAS... and if so, how easy is it to bypass hydrolic/eleccy versions of it?

Going for the slower option then! ;)

it will be soon ..... :)

Slower option?

Not sure what you mean.....

Is there truth in the 300 bhp drops to 280 bhp on the newer models?

lol he is taking the piss, saying that red is the fastest colour, a long standing joke on the forum..

about the 300-280bhp thing there are loads of theories about which cars have what power (autos 280 manuals 300 is the most popular)...

lol he is taking the piss, saying that red is the fastest colour, a long standing joke on the forum..

Right :-)

I HATE red cars, always have. Personaly I think any car in red, would look better in a different colour.....

Just my opinion.....

Oh and on a side not (just in case that DOESNT kick off a discussion) ...

There is NO SUCH THING AS FERRARI RED!!!! IT IS FERRARI YELLOW! ;-)

slimjim if you want to find out loadsa answers then come to the mids meet this weekend. it's in newark so not too far away. good bunch. as for never sitting in a z let alone driving one. i tell you from experiance, sit in one you'll want one. drive one n you'll be off to rob the bank.

Personally i recon your budget of £4k for a '94 TT SWB is a little optimistic, but you never know.

And as for anything other than RED :nono: :nono:

Im pretty sure you are right. :-)

It's bloody typical. Two years ago when I bought my DelSol, the next meet was 'that' weekend, and I couldnt make it.... and now im looking at a new car, im not sure I can make the meet again :-(

I would LOVE to come over and see the cars, sit in ane, and possibly bribe someone to take me out in one! :nana2:

I will try my best to make it. Either in a 200SX or (the wife's) Colt.... (Jap car's are ace :-)

I think you are right..... I do have a little room to manover, but I wanted to put at least a grand aside to iron out any issues with the car. I have always said when I get a new car, I usualy buy new tyres and brakes for it. It's always worth it... just for peice of mind...

Just got a quote for me 26, 8ncb, 10points (six months till they are off!) and fully comp is only 800 notes..... from a rep company Adrian Flux will match.

Anyone know if that is a 'decent' quote?

If you cant make it this weekend, don't worry, there'll be another one soon after anyway :D......................... If mine is completed for this weekend, and you can make it, then I'd offer to take you out in mine for a quick burn...... but then it is RED

Good idea about keeping some back for sort any little issues with the car.

As for insurance, join the club, then you may be able to take advantage of insurance through Houghtons. Whether they can help though I'm not sure, as I'm not sure on the age limit.

Think the age limit with Houghtons is 23 or 25. You should be ok. ;)
