Tyre Wear

Had a set of S03's put on my Zed at the end of August and put about 3k miles on them so far. bugger me are they wearing fast! Yea I know hard acceleration/high speed driving naks them, BUT they seem to be wearing in the centre only. Im running them about 2psi lower than recommended (about 34 rather than 36).

Apart from not hoofing it all the time, is it likely thatthe Hicas alignment could be at fault? I would think not as the wear is in teh centre only, I assume if the HICAS was cattled trucked that it would look like tracking wear ie one side scuffed.

Comments appreciated, probably resigned to buying new rubber in the new year ......

--> Too much pressure (but it's quite surprising)....

were you using a broken gauge ?

Zee you

No a digital one accurate to about 10/th PSI

Nissan recommend 36 running at 34,

tried 33 but rear end was a bit soggy,

also can cause sidewall to heat excesively.

Never seen a Z wear tyres in the centre before. Do you know your gauge is good ?

hate to say this but have you had the alignment checked? worked on a car once that was doing the same. we lined it up on a jig and found that it was twisted. the problem increases with tyre size.

does the centre look like it has been dragged and lost its tread or does it look like it has just worn. remember when you answer to take into consideration any burn outs, sideways action , etc

Mine ate a set of 265X18 rears. Inside edges were disappearing first- made me think toe out but it was 8mm toe'd in. New Hicas links had been fitted before me and I doubt it was tracked afterwards. If you run your fingers accross the top of the tyre from inside to outside and the opposite. If it feels the same both ways your tracking is probably OK. If you feel edges of tread one way and smooth the other then I think it points to a tracking problem. Also handling in the wet was really scary like that. Now its pretty good in the wet.
