D'oh! I've got hot felines too. On the basis that it might be different to BlackMagic's problem, I thought I'd put it in a new thread...

Anyway, I've gone through the previous conversations on this, which seem to be based on dodgy connections.

So I spent this afternoon cleaning every connector I could find (and get to). Generally they all seemed ok anyway, but the ones in worst condition were the injector connectors, but I presume that would lead to under fuelling, not overfuelling. So that turned out not to cure it. :(

The other things of note are that firstly, it's not running rough at all. In fact it's running the smoothest since I got it! So I presume that throws the no-spark theory out the window.

Secondly, it's idling high- with the climate control switched off it's idling at 1000rpm.

So... from that, is there anything that people can suggest to look into next?

Help would be very much appreciated! :)

Just gone over 101000km. So 63000 in real money :D

Yeah, I'd like to get rid of them too- you can't beat that de-cat sound! That'll have to wait for a bit though... :(

However, I've still obviously got a fuelling problem which would still be there with no cats, it'd just stop the warning light from coming on. I wonder, in this instance, if you had no cats whether you'd be getting flames out the back?! Cool!

ill have to find out mate.... i cant wait!!! have you had your 60k service yet... with these things it tends to be something small that you dont think of until youve fixed every big thing on the engine... and then realise you didnt need to change these big thinks because of the stupid small thing would have fixed the problem! its always the way in my experience

any way have you seen my post on the NE hants meet... you interested??? be good to meet up again

Vijay- yep, first thing I did, even though I'd put in a series 2 about 3 months ago.

Nick- fair point- I know that the chap who imported it replaced all the belts, but I should see what else is done at 60k and check those out too...

And I can't make the meet you're proposing :( Dammit... I'd have deffo been up for it otherwise.

:wack:

I likewise have cleaned all my connectors now and the PTU...

Had new plugs fitted bout 2 weeks ago and still suffering this very ireguler intermitent problem.

Although it does seem to come on more within the first couple of miles rather than the later stages of a journey.

It was superchipped a few weeks before i bought the car and was wondering if it might be due to the timing not being set properly so excess fuel is not being burnt properly.

Any ideas as to what the timing should be set to when chipped?

:xxx: Silly question i know ...its like "how longs a piece of string" :xxx:

but any rough guides would be handy.

I would think twice before running a superchip in a zed do a serach on them on here and you will see why, generally the base timing should be set at 15TDC but with some chips for example MINES you would be better off retarding just a little to 13-14 as the timing is already set up aggresively

Well I've had a look at what the 60k mile/100k km service checks (used this) and I can only see a few things that could contribute:

1) Crankcase ventilation

2) Air intake valve (Presumably AIV, although being pedantic I thought the I stood for Induction)

3) CO content cat (what exactly does this mean too???!)

So... I'd appreciate it if someone in the know could tell me what 1 and 3 mean! And also if they could give me my symptoms.

Failing that... anyone got any other pointers?

:smash: brown excretion....Thanks BAGGINS.Sounds (from the write ups and info)that SUPERCHIP are ,as oasis would say..."SShheeeeiiitteeeeeee" :smash:

Would i be right in thinking that superchip have a tendency to pre detonate and basically give you no extra performance other than to remove the rev and speed limiter.

Im gonna be needing a JWT asap me thinks.

Any quotes for a conversion???...send em on..TA

This may be a stupid question, but how bad is it to drive with the cats overheating?

Presumably it's not good for the cats themselves, but do you get to a point where you set fire to the car?!!!

1) Cankcase ventilation - Its those PCV valves again ;)

3) CO Content cat - erm  CO is carbon monoxide... not sure what this is though - maybe its some extra california emissions control or something... Unless its the carbon canister maybe...

One thing I would check is the vac lines to the fuel pressure regulator - if these are leaking then the car will overfuel when not in boost but under fuel when on boost.... That would explain a cat overheat while cruising ;)

Cheers Andy- I'l check out the FPR.

One thing I DO know is that I have a small leak from my clutch servo. I don't suppose that's close enough (system-wise) to the FPR to affect it?

Just to update this thread...

My rough running problem came back with a vengance having cleaned up the connectors! (see here for an update on that too).

But strangely, the last time the light came on was just after my initial connector clean. Since then it's been nice and un-illuminated, except when first turning the key so I know the bulb's strill working! ;)

So I'll park this for now...
