Right....

Ive bought an Fairlady 2+2 tt IMPORT on a K plate supposedly a 93 model.

I have checked my VIN ######510970 using this link:-

http://www.aus300zxclub.com/tech/year.htm

and it tells me that its a 90 model.

On my registration document is says...

Date of first registration=01/06/03 (DECL/D MANUF 1993)

I have front seatbelts mounted on the doors which "legend has it" were only fitted on pre92 models.

So is it a 90 or a 93 model???

Im thinking a 90 model.

Any Ideas please?

couple more places to check would be the rear lights , there is a little access panel to each rear light and on the rear of this you will find date stamps, you can also look on the underneath of the boot carpet where you should also find a date label, unfortunately the Japs and importers have been very good at masking the dates on imports to make cars seem later than they really are to get more money for them :nono:

93 may well be the year it was registered in the UK, often the DVLA get it wrong and cock up registrations

Just wondering...Do you sell 3point shoulder/lap rear seatbelts for the IMPORT as i only have lapbelts and need a 3point lap/shoulder to fit my kidies car seat with.

My other half is getting peeved off sitting in the back and i need a soloution.

You'll find loads of clues here :- http://www.300zx.org.uk/import_dating.htm

But, my research indicates that your car was manufactured in March 1990 and is a black, TT, auto, grey interior, 2+2, taga top ! (and the ashtray needs emptying lol ;))

Yup...Youre right about the ashtray...Do they do a bucket conversion..lol.

Anyway...Yes its black..2+2...targa...grey interior...

But its a manual... :hyper:

cant seem to find mine on there Andy find mine please lol gcz32 - 505556 cheers

Not according to Nissan ! I wouldn't say that the database is guaranteed 100% accurate, but it's most likely that it's already been converted (or it's a ringer!).

Doesn't seem to list any details, but looks like it was manufactured in Oct '89.

OOOhhhhh....a ringer..That sounds painfull..lol :x:

Is there any points i could look at to see if there are any signs of this???

Or anything that would give me a clue as to whether or not its been converted from a auto to a manual??

No mystery here, in fact your car is one of maybe 10+ I have dealt with most are of 89 or 90 vintage and have K reg plates on. All of these cars have one important common link and that is the last three letters on the plate **** BOM This indicates that the registation of your vehicle was in Birmingham, and that the dealer made a false/mistaken declaration of first use of the vehicle when making the original application.

I have taken the particular dealer (s) to task on this more than once and actually posted a warning a year ago here ( maybe longer) to this practise and the delaer and associates whcic were doing this.

The usual defence is they were misled by their supplier, often obvious year identification is removed ( like seat belt tags etc) in 2003 I acted on behalf of someone who had been caught this way and succesfully got his car replaced for him with in fact a real nice zed.

The dealer was given a copy of the chassis identification/ year by me so he could NOT use this defence again, there has been less of this in general but sadly it is a problem again.

I later found the dealers supplier was ........ his brother!

All the information was sent to trading standards who are trying to build a case which remarkably is very difficult as they need more people to complain, my advise would be to check with who originally supplied the car and make a complaint to the trading standards office in Birmingham as the car and dealer originate there, this will not help your case but will help others hopefully.

Finally though do not despair completely, all of this does not mean you car is a bad one, in fact maybe very good, the sale of these aledged K reg cars is not done to raise the selling price ,it is to make them more saleable,( usually sold at 1990 reg. prices) this does make them more attractive as compared to say a G.reg for the same price so sales tend to be brisker, however one down side of this is it messes with the whole market value of zeds generally and is in no small way part of the reason why prices have tumbled, if this is happening in Birmingham it stands to reason it is happening elsewhere........... buyer beware.

They really are cheeky little monkeys arnt they.....

Oh well....

At least thats solved that one...So its pretty safe to say that its a 90 model.

As it happens JEFF TT i did buy the vehicle from worcester(just outside birmingham) from a private seller for 5K in December04 and the original dealer was "AWESOME IMPORTS" based in Bristol who sold it for 7K in March 2004.

Its been well looked after and a fine specimen as i had checked out several b4 eventually settling on this one.

I just got to put up with the niggling things like no rear 3point seatbelts(just lap belts) and bulbs that just dont fit my IMPORT.

Im sure im gonna find a whole list of things that are not compatable with the IMPORT vehicles but thats a journey i'll have to go on at a l8er stage.

If any body has a list of what bits do or dont fit JAP/UK versions i'd be happy to read about them.

Anyway...

Thanks everyone for all your help.

Follow the advice above on checking actual date of manufacturer. Not that it really makes any difference, just use it as a haggling point on the price. Just because its a couple of years older does'nt nessarily mean there is anything wrong with it.

Also note that its pretty typical for a 91 car to be registered in 92, or a 92 to be registered in 93. Date of registration is really the date of sale, not date of manufacturer.
