Auto or manual? Makes a big difference ;)

yeah, with an auto theres no point in pulling the engine unless you have a manual conversion ready to go in :D

Auto or manual? Makes a big difference ;)

Does it? LOL

Does it? LOL

YES! :D Manuals come out with the box, autos box comes off then engine out :p

Auto's *can* be pulled with the engine but the extra weight will make it difficult, also you don't want to risk denting the sump on the auto box...

LOL, thats what I thought :D

Erm here goes...

1) Drain fluids from engine and gearbox. Gearbox drain is on the bottom, 1/2" drive to get it out. Disconnect and remove battery and plastic tray. Remove 4 main boost hoses.

2) Remove rad cowling, remove fan and viscous clutch unit, remove radiator

3) Remove accessory drive belts - just cut and replace with new ;)

4) Rotate PS pulley until one of the holes is at ~1 o'clock position. You can now get through the hole with a 14mm socket and undo and remove the pivot bolt. Remove tensioner assembly (12mm on the lower pump fixinkg point and 2 x 12mm holding the assembly on to the main bracket). Remove PS pump and tie to one side out of the way of the engine.

5) Undo and remove 12mm bolt holding the alternator tensioner assembly to the block. Then remove the pivot bolt (17mm) holding the alternator at the top. There is a captive nut on the back which should hold, if it doesn't you need to hold it while undoing the bolt - its a nut with a tab welded on it. Disconnect electrical connctions from alternator and remove.

6) Remove 4 bolts from AC compressor (14mm, one through front, one from rear, 2 from the bottom - rear one is a sod to get to). Tie compressor to one side out of the way of the engine.

7) Remove idle tube from passenger side (10mm at front then 12mm at the back on the balance bar). Remove remaining balance bar nuts/bolts and remove.

8) Disconnect all electrical connections from on top of the engine, round the sides and front, then swing the harness over the passenger wing out of the way.

9) Remove air inlet tubes from turbos, disconnect at the other end and remove from the car (removing them completely gives more access when pulling the engine)

10) Disconnect heater matrix hoses and any remaining boost hoses. Commonly missed hose is the one that goes from under the plenum just under the passenger side throttle body to behind the passenger headlight.

11) Undo gearbox bolt (14mm) holding the earth strap to the gearbox and remove 12mm bolt holding the earth strap to the block.

12) Time to get under the car :)

13) Remove entire exhaust from turbo down pipes back (ie including cat pipes)

14) Undo 6 10mm nuts/bolts holding the heatshield for the exhaust and remove.

15) Mark a line across the propshaft flanges (just behind the centre bearing) so they can be installed in the same position with respect to each other. Undo 4 17mm nuts/bolts from flange, then remove 2 17mm nuts holding centre prop bearing to chassis. Note the position of the large washers with respect to the bearing assembly, they are ABOVE it to space it down... Remove front propshaft.

16) Disconnect all electrical connections and oil cooler lines from gearbox.

17) Undo 12mm bolt from bottom of gearstick, then remove 4 bolts holding the shifter bracket to the gearbox (just above rear of box)

18) Support the gearbox with a jack and undo the 6 14mm bolts on the rear mount.

19) You're almost ready to go, time to drop the subframe :)

20) Undo any clips holding hoses to the front of the front crossmember, undo the 2 17mm bolts on each wishbone that attach the tie bars then the 10mm bolts holding the guards to the wishbones, lift tie bars out of the way.

21) Place a jack under the crossmember, then undo the 4 17mm nuts holding it up to the chassis rails. You don't want to remove them completely, leave just enough thread to hold the crossmember in place without it falling off the car.

22) Undo 14mm bolt on the engine mount on each side (it helps to turn the steering to get proper access on the passenger side).

23) Place sling around engine and take the weight with a crane.

24) Lower the crossmember until it stops at the nuts. Remove jack.

25) Lift the engine slightly with the crane, and lower the gearbox slightly with the jack. You need a trolley jack for the gearbox as it needs to be able to move as you pull the engine forwards. Its now a question of juggling the engine out, lifting with the crane slightly, moving forwards, lowering the gearbox etc, always making sure there is nothing left attached to the engine.

Hey presto! One engine and gearbox should be successfully removed! Re-fitting is a reversal of the above procedure :D

Think thats everything, appologies if I missed anything ;)

it helps if you jack the rear of the car if your removing both together
