So I called BT today, and was trying to find out how to cancel my subscription to the Broadband I've had with them for years. I found this other company who were offering a 1 meg line for a good price. So I call them up, and eventually get through to this very helpful young lady who proceeds to tell me that they value my business and they'd like to offer a FREE upgrade to a 1 meg line for me. This will be done within the week and there is no minimum contract! What a nice change to be treated like you are actually important to a company.

Only reason I posted this is because

a.) I was chuffed with the result

and

b.) If you have a BT Broadband 512k line, ring them and tell them you've found a better deal, then they might do the same for you :)

I've been looking at moving from BT to The Carphone Warehouse TalkTalk plan... They are offering an UNLIMITED 1mb line, AND the Talk Plan 3 (unlimited FREE UK landline calls ALL DAY) all for about £32 or £33 per month....

I bet BT wont beat, or even try to match that!! And even if they did match the money, would they remove the 30gig (on 1mb line) monthly download limit they are bringing in in 2005????

HTH's someone

Pud

.

hee hee - "ive found a T1 connection for £18.99 per month, do you think you could match that price please?"

You never know Dave... you might get a dumbass trainee, who'll try for you....

That sounds like a great deal Stevepud! In all honestly in nearly 4 years of having internet access through BT I have had 2, that's 2 downtime periods of no longer than hours each time. One I didn't even know about until I got a letter of apology through lol

I have lots of mates and family members who have tried other companies and not only is the contention ratio pathetic but the downtimes last for days in only a few months with them!

For people that need to worry about 30 gig of data transfer a month, well, they need to get out more! In fact they need to buy a Zed and get out more! lol I probably use a gig if that per month so I think come May (When they said on the phone at the time it was going to be enforced) I won't be losing any sleep over that ;)

Yeah, I dont get anywhere near those figures either, (might do soon though as my son is getting more into downloading)

Also, I agree about the actual service from BT, I havent had that many problems, a few more than you, but nothing major..

It was purely a money thing that made me look around....

If we all sign up to TALKTALK from carphone warehouse, all phone calls between us would be free also!!!

Pud

phone companies are mad....i phoned ntl to see if they would match the line rental offer bt quoted which would have saved £48 per year....ntl said no we cant match prices but we'll give you a 12 month £10 per month discount...saving £120 per year..!!??

nutters...oh well i'm still with them
