Went to renew my insurance today (£375.00) with Direct Line (Axa Insurance). Thought I had better inform them that they had sent the renewal for a 300ZX Turbo when mine was a NA. This obviously set alarm bells ringing and the company came back with a "no insurance quote" - because it was an import. I obviously became a little pissed off with this as I clearly stated this when I took the policy out in the first place and it was one of the main things I checked before I bought an import. Anyway, to cut a long story short, insurance was not renewable with AXA and Direct Line could not offer me an alternative.

I am 44, in the Royal Navy, have no convictions or accidents, live in deepest Cornwall (low insurance Post Code) and have 9 years Protected NCB. Viewers may therefore be interested in the following:

Had several quotes but these were the cheapest.

Adrian Flux - £495:00 (0870 069 2202) - Unlimited using my NCB

Peter Best Classic Insurance (5000 miles) - £488

Houghton Classic Insurance (5000 miles) - £260.17 (01582 867763)

Yes - £260 and considerably cheaper than my original insurance (for the wrong car)

With the classic insurance for Houghton I have to join the 300ZX club but that was only a matter of time anyway. NCB doesnt count with classic insurance but it undoubtedly helps if you are a silly old bugger.

To anyone viewing, this 300ZX site has been brilliant. Right from the start, before I even purchased a Z, it gave me all the info to go out and purchase the best car (and I certainly viewed some real dogs), helped me when my PTU packed up and, above all, everyone seems extremely willing to assist in anyway possible. Previous posts also gave mentioned to insurance and who club members had insured their cars with. It was this info that saved me a lot of dosh.

A bloody big thankyou.

I wouldn't have bought my Z without this place.

Do Houghtons have a lower age limit or mileage limit for their policies? (Just got my renewal through - £720!!!!)

I'm 24 and was told I couldn't insure with them (Clean licence 3 years NCB)

I think he said 25 minimum, but that might have changed now. I pay £960 fully comp with all mods declared on an Import TT with Admiral, not bad at all considering...

:D Shelton, well done mate and welcome  Now get ya £20 sent off and get subscribed...

Happy New Yr mate :duffer:

Matt

I'll give em a try myself, sounds like even the old uns like me cud save a bit. Cheers!

Goin away tomorrow for new year so won't be lookin in for a few days--- I 'll wish you all a HAPPY NEW YEAR and hope to catch up with you at some of the meets.(Catch up might not be the right words....SWB N/A no fancy bits).

Av a good un.

Hmmm - that'a a bit strange - I'm insured Fully Comp with Direct Line and have just checked my Cert. of Ins. and it says 300ZX NA. Perhaps they won't renew it in May.

Still with the quotes you've had from elsewhere I don't think I'll be going back anyhow!!!

I am with houghtons, i am pretty sure that for the z to be put on a

classic policy, you need to have a daily driver

Therefore the z is not then classed as a daily driver, and

can be limited to 5k miles per year.
