Creaking Steering Wheel

Only started happening yesterday, creaks when it gets to 90 degrees left or right, sounds like a floorboard creaking... It's quite loud :( Anyone had this before, any ideas?

    my mate had this noise last week diagnosed with steering rack failure but as takemetothepub says"might just me plastic shroud rubbing

    or it could be that your just getting old and its your joints creaking :p

     

    is the noise specifically coming from the wheel, or from deeper behind the dash, into the engine bay ?
