Double that figure now

My cousin's out in Thailand too, but likewise he's contacted us to say that he's ok- TFFT.

Really, really shocking stuff and this bit's only the beginning- so many areas now without water, food, sanitation, etc- it's gonna get worse before it gets better. My thoughts go out to anyone and everyone involved.

Old man has just been told by the rescue people that have flown out there that The death toll will reach somewhere in the region on 20K on sumatra. They cant get into teh areas just yet as the aftershock

One good mate is on Bali with his wife.

Another was heading south from Laos about 2-3 weeks ago.

I'd imagine they'll be fine though.

Sumatra must have taken a right pounding considering how near it was to the epicentre. Glad your old man's ok.

My Wifes best friend is celebrating xmas in Sri-lanka with her family.....we've been very worried, unable to get in contact with her, until 10 mins ago, when she just called to say she just landed back in the UK.

She was too tired and stressed to talk, but thankfully she and her family are safe.

There is a number to call for those that have family and friends out there (check BBC website). Unfortunatly so many people are stranded and most people have lost Identification and have problems getting hold of authorities.

Anyone see the news special today on BBC1. Must admit me and the misses hasnt watched much telly this Xmas and now suddenly realising its the worst disaster in our lifetime. Makes ya feel pretty helpless really, but all we can do is send some wonga eh. Has put the rest of the worlds problems in perspective for the moment.

Last I heard was this morning about 7am - death toll was 83,000 then. I'll wager the loss of life will be over 100,000 by the end - what a waste. It just shows of the power of water - nothing can stand in it's way it just washes everything away. Did anyone see that documentary on Tuesday night about Boscastle? Scary stuff.
