Got into a heated debate at work today about whether the Z is a supercar or not. Obviously I said that it is, but my mate said it's not 'cos it didn't cost over 100 grand or something like that.

I was just wondering, what do you think the criteria is for a car to be a supercar? Cheers

I think they come under the class of Japanese Supercar. Dinno the criteria but good enough for me.

Well a Cerbera is dead cheap, compared with 'supercars' and so are some (proper)Porsches, so I don't see why a Zed shouldn't be considered to be one. And if it isn't then it would be described as a 'supercar beater'.

of course it is a supercar, it certainly goes liek one but under evo mag it is classified as coup/gt car but in the same catagorie you get most porshes and most tvr's

Actually I think that they classed the 300ZX as the first super car out of Japan

well certainly in magazines going back a few years they were classed as supercars. I think all you need to do is take your mate out for a spin and when his jaw comes back off the floor, ask him again!

I think it was what was called a "Junior League Supercar".i.e. it has the performance and the looks but not the prestige/heritage...compared to Ferarris,Lambos,Maseratis(of old),Bugattis,Astons etc.

Rolls Royce Cost more than £100,000. That anit a super car.

Lotus Esprit Turbo dont cost £100,000 new, Thats is deffinatly a super car.

I'll add to that, when our cars first hit the roads they were dubbed as "the worlds first truly reliable and affordable Supercar" by the motoring press.

 

Affordable maybe, reliable? Hmmm, not overly convinced about that part of the statement! LMAO

enough said methinks.

I think that anything that does 160mph plus and makes you feel like yer bum is being forced into the back seat is a super car doesnt matter about the price!

Lets face it the ZX is a LOT more interesting to drive than a GTO maybe not as good as an supra but just as fast as a an impreza and evo and can knock spots of alot of the real expensive super cars (in a straight line and in daylight)!!!!

So its a supercar!!!!

Juts a quick story.

1990 and its a sunday night and i am at the bridge racing in Johannesburg(they race from one junction to the next about 3 miles)

and there is a 911 turbo there, whooping everything, then what comes down the road but the first white 300zxtt i had ever seen, cuased a real stir. Anyway off goes the porshe and the 300zx. We all stand and wait, we see this set of lights moving very quik towards us and ..well it comes off the offramp not even racing,??#

it turns out the 300zxtt had already been chipped and by third gear was so far ahead of the porshe he decided it was not worht racing under the bridge the porker left , never saw him there again

The Z32 is clearly a supercar.

 

The ONLY problem with it is that it's so damm cheap that ANY kid can afford one....don't know how to drive it, not maintain it, trash it...and blame the car (and pollute internet at the same time).

I should scan in the cover of 1990 Performace car.

 

I has a 300ZX, Porsche 911 and Honda NSX, with the title: 'battle of the supercars' or something (its in the car, and its snowing so I ain't going out to look).

 

Thats what I show folk when they say its not a supercar.
