So the sikhs don't believe in freedom of speech/expression. Perhaps they should remember they are able to live in this country due to a largely tolerant and FREE society. Perhaps they should remember this is a Christian country.

If they start getting less tolerance, then they only have themselves to blame.

But IMHO, if they don't like UK freedom laws, then f00k off to a country where oppression and ignorance are the order of the f00kin' day !!

Once more, religious intolerance ends in violence :nono: Who needs f00kin' religion ?!

Rant over.

Yup, they are already exempt from UK law for wearing crash helmets on motorbikes, and IIRC they are allowed to carry their 'ceremonial' swords/knives as well. Now it seems that they have got a bit upset about a play, written by a Sikh woman, and can get away with forcing it to close because "Those things do not ever happen in a Sikh temple" - Looks like they are trying to play catch-up with the Catholic priests fiddling with the choire

Yet again it comes down to opressing things in the name of the BIG INVISIBLE BEARD IN THE SKY - (or have they got lots of invisible bearded ones? I lose track of all this imaginary nonsense :xxx: :slap: )

I used to live with a some Sihks and they were top folk - honourable, decent, hard working, moral etc.

They did have a tendancy to set fire to their wives though which I was not convinced was a good thing.

They've also got a nice line in throwing acid over their wives too :nono: :xxx: :( Or is that another bunch? I lose track of all the wonderful things religeous people get up to.

yep saw the news article about them objecting about a "play"

so what do you reckon all brits boycott/riot at every film that the yanks make

when they bend the truth, as you say i think they need to remember where they are, OR we do what what would happen in their country if they had dared speak out :mac1: :mac1:

Couldnt agree more, send them ALL home if they dont like it here. But by the time the MP's have finished it will be their country and its us who will be the minority

they're a bit touchy these religious types...there were protests when Life of Brian came out (catholics i think were the most upset)...and maybe even the odd local authority banned it IIRC

still fire and brimstone, floods, war violence against your neighbour all par for the course when worshipping a kind and loving god and carrying out their instructions to the letter

wasnt the sihk (violent) protest a protest against the violence in the play...daft....maybe we should have a violent protest against violent protests?

This country has gone to the dogs lads, There ain't no Great in Great Brittan anymore. Can't wait for my chance to f**k off to Aus n live in the sun with me Z. They have the right idea over there, keep em at sea till they find some other poor saps to take them on.

Enough said....... :slap:

Here here!

yes, the irony of a violent protest against violence !!

these ppl are f00kin' unreal.

white caucasians will soon be a minority (already are in the midlands !!) - no wonder BNP are getting more & more votes ! They won't need to canvas votes soon - the sikhs are doing a great job themselves !

right lets have some knee-jerk reaction preferable in their groin...its the way i express my freedom of expression to their protest...so no offence there MR CPS

It remains a matter of great concern to us that illegal acts of violence can cause the cancellation of a lawful artistic work

Isn't that just the way in every respect Stuart. The law is far from being in the interest of the innoscent these days. Nanny state at it's best. :nono:

Let's remember this was just one group of people who stormed the theatre in Brum.

They don't represent all Sikhs or all minoritie groups.

Very true

One thing to note about the violence..

There were many people present at the protest, Many were older by the look of it, and wearing their headress, and probably acting responsibly, reasonably peaceful and mature. They didnt look too happy, but there were also quite a few other people there wearing basball caps and hoodies...

Was it only me that thought there were a few trouble makers blowing it all up?

I dunno cos I only saw a clip on the news for a few seconds?

Sad day for freedom of speech. Another set of "fundamentalists" from another religion seeking to impose their values on others.

As Craig says, I am sure the violent bigots do not represent all Sikhs so let's not be as narrowminded as the protestors. We bought our house from Sikhs, we've got several Sikh neighbours and they're all nice pleasant people (and our next door neighbours throw a fine party :D )

fair enough point....but they stood under the banner of being that community or at least stating they had its support..lets see if over the coming days anyone within that community condems them and their protest...or will there be silence

Oh I see, thanks Nelson for the Links! You know, if you don't read the news (like me) and concentrate on the little world around you, your friends, you job, your family and that, it's not all that bad :)

I do not read or watch or listen to the news, as it's all an opinionated pile of BS. I have yet to see an unbiased, objective news report, and I doubt I ever will. So I came to the decision about 2 years ago to not have anything to do with news. The only news I need to know is how my family are, how my car is ;) lol things like that. If you're always checking out the news then the world looks like a terrible place, our country is going to pot etc. No-one reports on the good things, the things that are going well, as that would not make good news. Unfortunately the nature of the Press and the majority of people who feed off it LIKE hearing about bad things. It's something to moan about, and people love to moan!

Now, I'm not saying it's the same for everyone, just the majority. ;)

If I can't change it, then what's the point in stressing about it? (perfect example: tax)

So, in summary, news is *****cks, marraige is good, my family are all well, my Job is good, petrol prices don't bother me, I'll just work harder to pay for it, life in my world is good. :) Let the others get on with it :D

p.s. that was by far my longest post I think, sorry for the length... and take my views with a pinch of salt, I've just been and had a beer or two for Lunch :o

i respect that position kay...as this problem comes up a lot when you have juries in high profile cases...one of the selection factors in the OJ Simpson case was do or can the jury read the news...and we all know how that one turned out....:)

Good points Kay - but all that is needed for evil to prosper is for good men to do nothing. Granted, there is little we can do about a lot of things (especially things abroad), and we shouldn't stress too much or get depressed (as good things are often not headlines as u say), but sometimes we need to care and keep informed.

I think it's largely a gender difference - men are interested in news, women are interested in family/relationships/shopping etc. Men are the ones who change the world, women change the nappies :x:

Changing topic -there ws a program last night about a book about how our country has got more and more controlled by central governemnt and how government has got more and more centralised - ne1 remeber what it was called ? It was comparing now to the 50/60s. Looked interesting.

It's part of our new and improved dicatorial/totalitarian state now that we'll soon see the end of jurys.....and innocent until proven guilty.......and even the right to know WTF you have been charged with....and the right to defend yourself (physically and in court).....and the right to see any 'evidence' against you....your right to silence......in fact, your right to do anything other than pay the government your money.

We are now introducing laws dreamt up as a result of tabloid headlines and knee-jerk reactions.

The sad fact is, that the government had done everything that a government should do by the end of the 1950's. Since then they have just concentrated on invading our day to day live to justify their own existence. :slap: :nono: :slap: :xxx: :xxx:

HERE HERE!!!!

so let's see:

* (deliberate) dilution by smelly immigrants

* the innocent punished while the offenders are looked after

* the government getting away with EVERYTHING

* more taxes

* attempt to rename Crown Court to Peoples Court

* a rife compensation culture that gets worse each day

* society/education getting so bad that 12-year-olds commit MURDER

* removing more and more power from the Monarchy

* roping in every possible (2nd-world) country into a Europe of which we have NO control

* making it non-PC to say "CHRISTMAS"

= trying to break everything that we hold as **-> BRITISH
