Mate of mine at work was photographed last week by a camera van (parked in a cycle lane on an urban clearway road I hasten to add) doing 81 mph in a 50mph. It is a two lane road and it was dry and sunny. He has no mitigating circumstances.

The NIP dropped through his letterbox today and merely states that he is being done under whatever section of the road traffic act. Its doesnt actually state what they intend to prosecute for. Is this the norm these days? Does this indicate its likely to be dealt with via points and a fine rather than court?

Poor lad knows he done wrong but hes only 25 and just got himself into a nice Rover 200 coupe as well. Gonna sting his insurance.!

Any advice appreciated.

Got 2 of these in the space of a week not so long ago. :slap:

87 then 90. Both on a 70.

It depend how bad it is, with these two i was just given 3 points and a £60 fine for each. No court appearence.

Last year though, i was caught at 106mph on a 70. Got the same letter through the door, sent it back and was told i had to go to court. Got a 3 week ban and £150 fine.

 31 over the limit, The NIP is to say that they will be prosecuted under that traffic act on the form, he should be imformed of a court date if he hasn't been given the chance to plead through the post.

At that speed he may well be looking at a Ban for a few weeks/ months and a fairly heavy fine :(:( not good news i know.

I think hes understanding that it could well be a temporary disqual and is preparing for that. I have told him to go see a solicitor before he does anything, even before he signs the form and sends it back. Though he knows hes done wrong and they have the evidence to prove it.

Wouldnt mind but its a bloody good road for gettin some speed up on too!!! They actually installed permanent Gatsos on there about 3 years ago but in 2 days both were nicked as its near a notorious estate.

Thanks for the advice fellas.
