I have bought a PTU2 and want to replace my old PTU1 will the connectors fit or are they different ?

I've had a bonnet vent for 5 months and this makes water hit the belts and the PTU / temp sensor electrics. The electric fan now comes one even at startup (engine cold) and somtimes the Z runs as rough as an old dog until you take it to 3000 rpm then runs fine. Then after 1-2 mins runs smooth !

I'm planning to reposition the PTU to the nearside arch and make a belt shroud or something !

If anyone could let me know about the PTU connectors that'd be great

I recently fitted a PTU S2 to my 1993 TT but had to fit adapter harness's supplied with the new S2 PTU as the plugs on S1 and S2 PTU's are different.

You will need the series 2 PTU wiring harness. The series 1 connectors are different to the series 2 :(

cheers guys I shall have to get a series 2 harness pronto as I want to do the job over christmas.

cheers :)

Mr P, if you have an Induction filter, you could relocate your PTU to near there. I've seen this mod on a few of the US sites, and it looks quite a good place, infact thats where I'm going to relocate mine to, now I've just brought my Apexi :D

I'll have a look for a link or two.

cheers Dave

I relocate the PTU near the Induction intake ( I also have non standard intake ) what route do people take the harness past the radiator ?

I thought the easy'st way was behind the front passenger light on the the arch cos thats where the loom goes back via ?

ALways up for advice and idea's

Cheers

Mr P

Here you go (God that took some bloody finding, loads of broken links :wack: )

Link It's not the best pic I've seen, but it gives you the idea, Oh! and YES the centre panel WILL fit over the top of it :D

As for wiring, hmmmm not sure yet, untill I take mine apart, also over xmas :D

Anyway HTH

Thanks Rich...... I was'nt exactly standing the library lobby, I had been in the library for several hours reading many books (used search engine to try to and find my answer) when a Friendly Z owner also comes into the library and I simply asked him for some kind assistance. For which without trouble he shared... What a top bloke  If only all the people in the library were so friendly

fairplay tis a good library to

Been in this library for a wee while now. Is there a cafe anywhere?

I thought the point of relocating the PTU was to keep it cool, as the PTU1 fcuks up when it gets too hot. The PTU2 shouldnt have this problem, so whats the point in relocating it?

I have a bonnet vent and when raining you get a really pretty waterfall going over the PTU wiring and plugs and then onto the belts.

So not really for heat but more for corrosion and bad contact issues.

PTU1 is also said to suffer from vibration damage in the stock location :(

you could relocate the series 1 PTU to near the air filter which is what I've done with no problems with overheating or water on the PTU.

Vijay

My point in moving my series 2, would simply be for bling reasons :D As I'm having my cam covers painted, so I want as little as possible in the way

No worries nothing taken personally mate :) I can understand people getting frustrated with people standing in the library lobby shouting a question and not even using the search facility first.

As someone posted this is a great library. It's just a shame we have to talk via PC's and not in a central pub somewhere. :duffer:
