Hiya Ben,

Glad to hear you got back okay - I assume we solved the fuel leak problem then ...

It was good to meet you and see your car. Bloody hell, it looks agressive being so low!

Yeah, I'll be sleeping rough for a couple of days because me lady friend hasn't got the same enthusiasm about cars that I do .... (joking)!

See you soon - hope the MOT works out for you.

Cheers biggrin.gif

Danny

PS - I highly doubt you'll pass the MOT with the front tyre being the way it is - suggest you put a new one on there quick!

Yeah, cheers danny, you and jeff are a pair of lifesavers!

the car was fine all the way home. no prob.

i decided to get some new tyres this afternoon. and the car wouldnt start, so i fiddled with the same screws that you adjusted and it seemed to work fine after that. i think maybe the one on the opposite side was a bit loose.

got a good deal on tyres anyway [i think] £80 all fitted and sorted - for a front and a rear [235/255] bf goodrich. from a place in the centre of leicester called 'abdul's tyres' - mr.abdul did me a good deal!

well i think im having a good week so far [touch wood] - just need to get through mot tomorrow.

still a bit worried about the perforance of the z. when i floor it the boost guage goes up alright, but it just doesnt seem to really 'go' - and i have to lift off the gas pedal after about 5 seconds of power because a little red light always flashes at me [on the digital display in between hand brake and, whatever] - some kind of temp warning or somethin. maybe it needs oil change, or that radiator draining....?

anyway. once again thank you.,..... jesus you to guys are the daddy's!!!

alright kidda, take it easy. [we'll have to arrange another 'mini meet' at jeff's sometime... so i can check out his daughter and her mate again!]

ps. have you seen the pics, in the 'rides section' under, veilside.

ben.

Ben,

Only one BIG super dragger on the back? Same as Wazza's (300z) what's the rumble like? Are yu going to change it for twin pipes or leave it lop-sided? wink.gif

Whenever you guys are up for a beer I'm there like a BEAR.... biggrin.gif any night in the week I ain't on shift or on a Sunday.

When you reckon Ben, Danny, Jeff, anyone else?

I know the Turbo man is coming to see me in the very near future with his 'new' rebuilt Z, maybe then........

Anywho.....let me know....

Oh yeah....and Ben....don't get a lead foot in the wet otherwise you'll be facing the wong way quicker than you can blink, had an almost nearly today at 35mph?!?!

Can't wait to get my Traction Control fitted, soon as it's done Jeff I'll get you for a spin....

and,er, yeah, definatley need to start meetin up. i got mot tomorrow, and then a couple of weeks for registration and then ill be 'officially on road. [i think ive done about 200+ miles with no mumber plates, tax or aqnythin so far!]

200 miles+?

Don't worry.....they won't catch ya!... biggrin.gif

So you thinkin of gettin some trusty (sorry Waz!) twin pipes?

(big after market ones of course)

Not as big as the 6" 'tin can' you have on the back tho', Andy Duff's pipes are the muts...HKS, maybe going that way myself shortly, once the TC is fitted.

whats wrong with my tin can - swine!

i quite enjoy annoying the neighbours with. although, i must admit, i do like the more throaty, tuned, sound you get from other exhausts. still, HKS - cant complain.

anyway, where's the pics of your car, they dont seem to be on the 'rides' section.....

[i need to find somethin to take the p#"s out of you]

anyway i dint think it matters what exhaust i have, i cant go over 3,500rpm or the car throws a wobbly at me. i might as well have a bloody pea-shooter on the back!

maybe i should get a supra instead........naaaaaa, maybe not.

ps. how'd the footy go - any second rate beckham antics?

hold on a second............

ive found your ride. looks just like mine......except.......uhhhhhhhh, it seems to be a uk model with a donut badge....oh dear that isnt good!!

still, your tyres look like they're hot off of the, er, rubber plant? pretty, spankin - not like abdull's tyres, leicester.

That Donut badge as you put it is £880 cheaper on my insurance!

UK = £443

Import = £1323 (foookin steep!)

Ahhh....he joys of UK Z ownership....

I have Fulda ruber n my Z, nice tyres, very grippy wet and dry....£190 for the rears fitted and balanced. Can gt them cheaper at BMTR (local tyre place) he said he would do me a good deal as I would a regular customer (how does he know I will be?) biggrin.gif

Played out a 0-0 draw on Saturday, hard earned point away from home against our title challengers, that leaves us (Alcoa) 3 points clear at the top, BTW I am top scorer with 10 goals in 6 games, thought I'd get that in.... smile.gif

Hope the Z passes the M.O.T., I'm sure it will.

Veilside, that exhaust temp warning light is the cat overheat warning. In other words, there is unburnt fuel getting through to the cats. This is probably due to a lack of spark on one cylinder. Most likely cause of this is either a bad connection on one of the coil packs, or a faulty coil pack. Try pulling all the connectors off the coils and checking them for corroded connections. Be carefull when you're removing them though because they get very brittle due to the heat under the bonnet.

Hope this helpZ,

Andy

yea, the bastard thing failed the mot. there is a slight crack in the exhaust, that i think just needs a bit of welding.[could this be what is causing the undurnt petrol/cat problem]?

also cos the car is lowered to f!*k its done somethin funny with the front suspension/whatever and hence the front tyre wear on the inside [all the way to the cord and bits of metalinside the rubber!] so i gotta sought that out.

oh, and the bugger needs all new brake pads.

so a trip to my local garage awaits.

anyway.

arse.

oh , and there is also some strange water leak coming from somewhere around the engine [couldnt see where] that has caused a layer of rust to form under the engine/bottom of car.

im havin a nightmare this week!

Ben my friend, take it easy ...

Not all is lost with these few bits that need doing. Take it one bit at a time.

Brake pads: I just bought brake pads all round for about £38. Excellent quality, from a shop around the corner from where I live and ever so easy to install (did it myself and saved a small fortune.

Tyre wear: When you were over at Jeff's last weekend we told you that the excessive tyre wear was due to impropper camber because you have larger wheels and lowered suspension. Contact Luke at the Z Centre (Nottingham) - contact detail to the left of this screen under "Contacts & Links" - and he'll more than likely be able to source you a camber kit.

Exhaust: unfortunately don't know too much about that but would expect that the crack needs welding to solve your problem.

Water Leak: Could be leaking water hose or even the water pump. My suggestion is to get the car off the ground, take the engine splash guards off and have a nosey around the bottom of the engine. There are a couple of water hoses that run there and one of those may be cracked.

I hope this helps mate. If you need help with the brake pads let me know and we can sort something out.

Cheers mate wink.gif

Danny

Veilside;

The crack in the exhaust wont cause the cat temp light (AFAIK), but given what you said about the performance, I'd put money that you are dropping a cylinder (or two) through lack of spark, causing the unburnt fuel to hit the CAT's.. Anyone local to you who can take a look? A dropped cylinder is kinda hard to really notice if you're not used to the car.. Basically it idles rough, vibrates a little, but it's not particularily violent - if you've only just bought one/driven one you might think it's normal!

The camber on your wheels - it's because it's lowered.. Do you know how much? If it's standard 0.8" drop then a camber kit from 300Degree(.com) will sort it out (fixed correction), if it's more/less lowered then you'll need adjustable camber correctors - SE sell these I believe, as do Stillen in the states (Johnny/Phong for them then).

As for the water leak.. Find it, sort it, PRONTO.

I had a small leak, leaked a little when cold (visibly, under the car, dripping off the bottom of the steering rack), used maybe 100ml of water a day.. Nothing bad I thought, tightened a few hoses, seemed to go away..

One 300mile trip later, and one empty cooling system... frown.gif Not good, not good at all..

Az

cheers guys - i think popping the car up to the z centre sounds like a spiffing idea [if it makes it there.

ps. how many brake pads the does the z need all round and is it ok to buy uk spec pads?

8?

pps. danny > no matter how many times i flashed the shiny, well fitted fog light at the mot inspector - he wouldnt overlook the bits of metal coming out of my tyres!

[This message has been edited by Veilside (edited 07-11-2001).]

Ben,

Always change the pads per axle. Each wheel hosts two pads so that makes a total of eight pads for all four corners. Don't worry, you can only buy them per axle anyways. As for UK spec pads - no prob at all.

Let me know if you need help.

Cheers mate!

Danny
