here I am back to the orical!

Ive got a noise on my car that only appears when it is very cold, it seems to come from the passenger side under the bonnet, its driving me potty! its a sort of air drill noise, or like like a knackered bearing on a drill, it speeds up the faster you go and gets really loud untill the car is warm.

This is something not asociated with the engine, its as if there's a fan somewhere with a knackered bearing, but Ive changed the viscose bearing on the fan, but its still there, :headvswal it seems to be somewhere nearer to the passenger side.

Any one have any ideas?

Does it go away when the car warms up? If so it could be the clutch release bearing mate

Ivan

Its not your turbo you can hear spinning is it, this sounds a little like this ...

I think maybe its your wheel bearing thats broken... (front-rightwheel) this makes a humming sound and dissapears when driving for a while, but in a matter of time the sound wil stay....

No sorry none of this guys, Ive had two engines fitted, a new clutch and release bearing and new turbos since it started, its definately not from the wheel area its under the bonnet high up, thanks for the ideas though.

initially it sounds like the AIV but that doesnt get faster with engine (i think) and comes from the passenger nearside front wheel arch

Could be the CAS beginning to fail - I may have a spare you can try I'll have a look. You can pick it up when you pop over if you like ;)

aiv, cas these are possibly things I dont know about, sounds like we could be on the right lines, it could be from the passenger arch? andy if you've got a spare CAS, I'll try that first, should be over this week as soon as the pulley arrives, problem with this fault is unless someone is with you first thing when the car is cold you cant demonstate it, so i'll talk to you when i'm over and give it a try, thanks
