the engine's been running fine for the last few months then as soon as i wash it it runs lumpy for 10 mins. now its fine again! would something stupid like water getting up the exhaust or air filter cause this?

Featured Replies

water in air filter would, and would be most likely candidate.

Especially if runnign aftermarket induction kit, as it lacks the protection of the Air filter housing..are you Hand washing, Jet washing or using a Car wash ?

im jet washing Legrath. i have an aftermarket cone filter which could also contribute to the problem. i know the filter is very vulnerable from below, but i wouldnt have thought much water would have got in from above.

the mistake of the day then...dont use jet wash cant beat a good handjob :p

although jet wash is good to clean wheels in between all the fiddly bits

It most prolly leaks in from the top as well. Might be worth putting in a piece of plastic to drip the water away from the filter as heavy rain will do the same thing. Next time take off the centre nose panel just after you wash it and you'll see how much the filter gets wet.

i think youre probably right WillieO, no doubt the water'll get in there somehow. ive got my next air filter on the standby - a brand new unbranded £25 eBay jobbie that will ruin my engine within 6 months.
