A car travels at a constant speed for 1/4 of a kilometer in 29.2 seconds. During this time the speedometer registers 22MPH.

Is this true speed and if not what is the percentage difference?

Answers to 2 significant figures.

Now, I am not all that bad at maths (well, am sh1te really) and cannot work this fuc

I have been given a clue that MPH to ms^-1 = x 0.447m WTF!!!!!!!

or is my calculator busted?

You're right!

I did use the correct number in my calculation (see my 1st post) but typed it wrong there which I'm sure muddied the waters.

Oh well, that was last night and I was ripped to the tits on ludes and purple hearts.

I'm at work now so there's only a couple of Stellas clouding my judgement.

So the speedo should read 19.14mph...right?

That's the true speed, yes. It should read that.

(but don't trust me .... I put the wrong number in the calculation before! )

19.14/22=0.87 therefore the true speed is 13% less than the speedo reading

or

22/19.14=1.15 therefore the reading is 15% over the true speed

It depends if you express the difference as a percentage of the true speed or a percentage of the (inacurate) speedo reading.

I guess either could get a correct answer but am not sure which is 'really correct'.

Hope that's not just confusing!
