My car sometimes starts to idle at about 1500 - 2000 rpm, but then on some days goes back to normal. It was fine for a few weeks after a mate of mine messed about with the TPS, could this be the problem? if so I want one where and how much?

not a case of needing a new one just needs ajusting properly should read approx 0.42v with a voltmeter or cosult theres a how to on TT.net

 

if starting from cold it isent abnormal for the car to idle between 1000-1500rpm until warmed up it should read about 800-900 rpm

 

try cleaning the throttle bodies and resetting the ECU worked for me ;)

More likely its green oxide in the connectors. Take em apart carefully and scrape the green gunge off the pins with a very small screwdriver - I would not advise tampering with the tps setting. Mines has done this many times. 138k from new with the white paint blob on the tps showing it has never been adjusted since new. Most unstable running issues with zeds are connector problems or cracked hoses causing air leaks and making the idle unstable that way.

 

Wiggle wires when its running unstable

 

Connector dangling under tps first then have a wiggle of wires at the very back of the plenum nearside. The idle air valve is there and if the connector is not sound there it can even not idle at all.

as it says if the tps has been played with the chances are its reading the wrong value

woops didnt read it properly - agree with greg the tps now needs set up properly

Going to try get it checked out tomorrow, hopefully should sort it out.
