One of my belts is slipping causing a loud squeel when i fire up the car, also if i slam my foot to the floor it squeels again.

Yeah mine does that !!

But there again i do believe that my car is possessed ! :D

or a knackered viscous fan :)

my viscous fan was fooked but it was more of a whine than a squel new viscous noise gone

Mine makes a little squeak as it fires up, then no more, even if I boot it. Could that be the alternator belt too?

mine did thta for the first time today adjusted alternator no probs now it got worse as the alternator loaded up ie turning more leccy items on bloody annoying i agree but fixable. watch those knuckles ive got 2 now leaking claret !!!

It could also be the cam-belt tensioner. Not a major problem, just annoying. Wait until the cam belt needs changing otherwise it's an expensive repair. The part isn't cheap anyway - about £250 from Nissan UK  but the labour to remove the front of the engine.....

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Quickest way to cure the squeak noise, is to cover the belt's in talc power, it dont adjust the loose belt of coarse, but the squeak will stop!!!

Had the same problem and it turned out to be a very small pin hole in the rubber hose from the engine to the top radiator hose.

Presumably, after the engine had been run and then parked up, it was leaking under pressure and dripping onto the alternator belt pulley. Causing it to squeal for a short time after start up.

Just a thought.

the squeel has only been happening since a few weeks after a majot service, so i can rule out the cam belt tensioner as this was replaced. i think its because one of the new belts has worn in and need re-adjusting.

In my experience, usually the squeal is caused by a loose belt, or maybe a older belt where the rubber has become harder. When the belt runs for a while it softens and the noise gpes. The belt does not slip as such but moves up and down the vee a bit as it goes over the pulley. The way to check is to just go over the belts (engine off!) pushing and checking their tension with your fingers - you need to have an idea what the correct tension feels like. Most books advise against having the belts too tight which causes early belt failure. Replacing the belts whenever you have the opportunity too is a good idea - they don't last forever.

Cheers

I find if you spray on a mild household cleaner on the belts one at a time the squeal will disappear for a while until the cleaner dries out, thus identifying the noisy belt. You only need to spray on a small amount with the engine stopped.

I meant to say and then restart the engine after spraying on the suspect belt...

If you come into ASDA patchway bristol between 8am and 4.30 pm i will give you a can of rocol belt dressing spray. spray this on the belts to insure good drive and no slip!
