I'm looking at getting a 300 but have never owned one, but I have a friend who's got a Skyline GTS to sell for his mate. It's a 93 GTS but GTR spec only single turbo. He's looking for £5500, it just had new turbo, its got dump valve, boost controller and huge intercooler. I'm now in a quandry as to what to go for. As 300 drivers what would people reccomend as the best car to go for. I've had insurance quotes and they're both pretty much the same.

Any advice will be much appreciated

Depends if you want something that loads of people dont own - ie 300ZX or you dont mind being one of the numbers, and getting a v.quick (with modding) generally reliable car which is the liner.

PS. How can it be the gtr spec when a gtr is 2.6TT and a gts is 2.5single turbo ?

what would expect anyone on this forum to advise in all honesty?

as far as insurance, if you got a quote from Houghtons insurance as a meber you might find the 300 cheaper, of course you would then have to join to get the price quoted but it would be well worth it, only my opinion!

drive both and go from there. I prefer the feel of the ZX as your sat low and the interior is sporty.

hang on i will just have a think about that

ask the audience

phone a friend

50/50

and if you ask the skyline forum they will tell you the same= Z

even stevie wonder thinks they look better :)

Skyline GTS-T is a nice enough car, but IMO it is inferior to the 300zx in many ways. I would only recomend it over the 300zx if you needed a bigger rear seat and boot.

Its more of a 2-door saloon than a sports coupe..and the interior is like that of a Nissan Primera. The GTR makes up for that with its Trick 4WD system, better exterior and 2.6 Twin turbo.

btw - I was originally set on getting a Skyline GTST......but I bought a 300zx instead, and could'nt be happier with the decision

Correct me if I'm wrong tjrayner, but I assume you mean in the looks/body panel way, as in it's a GTR lookalike!

If it's looks you're after then it can only be personal. The GTR is a great looking car, whereas the GTS isnt!(IMHO) On the other hand the 300ZX is gorgeous :D

But what did you expect from the 300ZX forum? :D

...simple questions really...

Do you want a prety car or an ugly car?

Do you want a car that has a removable roof - for those long hot English? summers?

good luck

PMSFLMAO!!    That's why I brought mine last winter, so when do they start? ;)

Another way to look at it is a Skyline is a very nice car, and in some ways is in a league of its own.

But a 300zx was a supercar in its day.

So would you like to own a very nice family car :x: , or something a different that still looks as young and drives as well if not better than most new cars. :D

Summers start at 16 degrees (with a warm coat - roof comes off.) With heated seats 12 degrees will do. Mind you I live in the driest county in the country...

I swapped my old GTS Skyline for my 300 and there is absolutely no comparison at all. The 300 comes out on top everytime, trust me I have owned both, The R33 GTR V Spec Skyline however is a totally different kettle of Fish (Simply Awesome)

lmao, well I kind of expected that reaction, but no1 has really tried to sell the 300 too me. Can anyone tell me the width of the car as this is a huge factor. The gap between the houses is very tight. So a 300 may be too wired.

But will it fit in the garage????   :x:

family car or sports car ?? mmmmmmmmmm

Dont need to try and sell it to ya - drive a GTS then drive a ZX - no comparison

However like it was said above - drive a GTR and you will want one lol

once would of done, but thanks all the same, lol

I beleive x-biker is refuring to something else, a bit of an in-joke, not aimed at you ;)

Yeah, sorry about that. I've been away for a week, so I'm a bit rusty! LOL!

As to the GTS......a bloke I work with has one. Nice enough I suppose, but doesn't look 'special' enough, and at the end of the day it isn't the 'R', therefore its a lightweight wannabe  I think the GTS can out-perform a V6 Mondeo, but you wouldn't really know it from looking! PMSL! (certainly not from the inside which is MEGADULL!!)

GET A 300ZX!!! - fantasic 'grunty' performance, lovely V6TT howl and looks great inside and out!

GTST - 2.5 Single Turbo - 250bhp

300zx - 3.0 Twin Turbo - 300 bhp

You'll also find the GTST will cost a lost more to tune, hindered largely by its high compression ratio and plastic impellered single turbo.

...although I see that the Skyline your interested in has had work done.

Another thing to bear in mind is that the Skyline in Japan is nothing more than a Family car, it has the same image as a Mondeo. Its only when you say Skyline GTR does it mean anything over there. (bit like escort and escort cosworth).

The Zed is special. The original Japan "Supercar". The Fastest and most expensive japanese car when launched. The Skyline GTS is just a fast(ish) family car.

Aye, even the mighty GTR34 can be mistaken for a Mondull-o to people who dont know much about cars, so the GTS doesnt really stand a chance. The Z however has got the lot - the looks, power, performance, interior, engine sound, rarity (unless you live in Leicester :D :D )

one to put the kids grandma and the air freshner in

the other to put me and my right foot in ;)

:)

I had a lovely 300 but really had to get rid of it due to having two kids. Having tested all Skylines extensively, I opted for the GTR simply because the others weren't quite up to the task after the Zed.

That said, and I know I will get shouted at here, even the humble GTST has a better chassis and can get the power down without the real 'pant filling' experience the zed can offer in the wet. But personally I quite liked that.

If I was on my own, no kids, I would still be driving the Zed, then again the GTR is a pure ripper. In my opinion if you are thinking Skyline save your pennies and go for broke (GTR) otherwise search carefully, take advice when offered from others who have been there before and get a Zed.

Best of Luck

haha...next you'll be telling us you still wear them....that is to say the rubber ones from your zed days
