Help please

Just bought my first Z, so I don't know too much about them yet.......

On Saturday I drove the car from Essex to Coventry without any problem at all. Tonight, I got home after a 70 mile semi-fast drive and let the engine run for about 10 mins and all was fine (I was learning about the radio while I waited) and switched off. I went back to playing with the radio. About 2 mins later I noticed lots of steam(?) pouring towards the windscreen. I immediately popped the bonnet and went to have a look. The plenum was making a popping and hissing sound and there was a lot of heat being thrown off. There was no indication of this while I was driving.

I let the engine cool down more and checked the oil and water about 2.5 hours later. They both seemed fine.

I'm a bit paranoid about driving it now until I know what's happened. Does anybody have any ideas, please?

Ok possible water is getting onto the plenum via that, and buidling up whilst idling if its raining

otherwise it could be a split water hose, but if your not loosing coolant then its unlikely, I would keep an eye on the coolant and oil levels.

if you still arnt sure then it may be worth having either a local garage or a local member on here that knows what they are doing taking a look :)

Cheers Mike, I hadn't thought of that. It was raining at the time and I was parked on a slight slope - could well have been rain channeling onto the hot plenum. I will keep a close eye on it and get it checked too.

This is much more likely to be a burst plenum to turbo hose at the rear of the engine - I have it too and a few others show this recently -it has to do with the age of the hoses. There will be a tiny crack that opens up under the pressure that increases shortly after a hot run.

Watch the water level till its fixed. These rear hoses are a bitch to get at unless you have arms like et

Your not wrong Willie I have had too do quite a few of these recently :(

Tell the boys how then cos I still cant see it :)

Each time it happens it stops before I can see where its coming from

LOL OK

on the nearside turbo there is a two water hoses connected together by a metal hose this leads to the offside heater hose , to get to the top part off this hose is easy as its at the rear of the upper intake , the other end on the turbo is a little more tricky , you can either get to it from where the battery sits or come up from underneath the car (easiest way) , you will need to undo the 10mil bolt holding on the metal part of the hose, this attaches to the nearside heater hose , you can then pull out the whole hose assembly.

You then make up one hose from the nearside turbo to the offside heater hose.

Cheers Ryan. So I need to get under it. Thanks for the advice.

I was worried about leaning on the thick bit of wiring loom at the back of the engine. With all the stories about brittle wires I thought bending it out of the way might not be a good idea
