I actually learnt something today.

Was looking at a new car in a car audio shop with the big bass boxes being installed in the trunk.

They had big vents out to the rear. and no opening to the front - then it hit me!

What are these about - yes you guessed it - these boxes have nothing to do with music or rap or street or anything like that - they are there to attract ATTENTION. Pure and simple the big bass beat causes the chicks to look around at where it's coming from.

Nothing to do with listening yourself to music - just a chick attracter.

Of course the more powerful the better, and best in the trunk so you don't hear it so much and u can think straight.

I thought more about it and looked at the sound levels - found out the level for permanent ear damage is well below the level for pain or discomfort (and the damage is cumulative). Yep, these guys going down the road BOMP BOMP BOMP are probably doing ear damage to themselves. But they are thinking about all the chicks they will attract......

 

Hey ever thought about loud exhausts - what are they about - certainly not car performance! And here they have big neon lights on the cars - green, blue - you name it.

but large exit exhausts do serve a purpose, especially on turbos

And you're slightly misguided about the technology involved in speaker cabinets, particularly bass bins. The construction of the cab accounts for 50 % of the volume and quality of the sound. Ask any sound engineer. It also helps if the cabs are black and a bit scruffy!!!
