Engine Pre-heater

Has anyone fitted an engine pre-heater to a Z?

I have used a Kenlowe Hotstart on a couple of my previous cars including a tuned 3.5 V8 to great success. Triggered by a timer 30-40 mins before you want to use the car, the water tem is up there already, and alright the oil has to warm up but in a warm block etc. etc...

I use my Z for a short run, 4mls, every morning, I'm trying not to think of the detramental effect.

Any comments welcome, inc. where to interupt the water circuit.

I've got a, barely used, unit sitting in my garage.

that sounds really interesting...mmm.. how much does it cost? it doesn't say on the site..

will it warm up things while the engine is still off I guess.. just thinking security and conflicts with allarm systems

Manic,

I have had several of these units, they are basically a 3kw water heater with a pump. The engine is off when you use it as the water is pumped round by the unit itself, the unit is not connected to the car other than the interrupt in the cooling system, its powered off the mains.

The cost is about £150 inc VAT.

Does this thing have a timer or do you have to have to start it yourself?

It'll be a mains thing, so you could use one of the electronic timer plug jobbies as long as the current drain is not too high.

Timers can be a bit of a problem,

I used a central heating timer from Wickes for the last set up and it worked very well.

Anyone got any suggestions as to where to put the interrupt?

Tim
