Read this as a warning guy's, take it from me.

After an evening of banter on the forum last night, I sat in my new reclining leather chair, for half an hour in front the TV, before showering and bed, with that, my middle daughter came down stairs, covered in sick, complaining she didnt feel well. So me and the wife went up stairs, sorted her bed, got her cleaned up, went to leave her room, and noticed the youngest daughter had also been sick in her sleep. So once again, stripped her bed, cleaned her up, new bedding, and put her back in. Wife then says that she thought she could smell GAS!! Told her not to be silly, but had a look at the boiler, and checked the cooker, could'nt see or smell anything out the ordinary, so left it and went back downstair's. After a bit, went upstairs for a shower, having a sniff along the way, getting a bit paranoid, but could'nt really smell nothing. A bit later wife comes up the stair's, and it's the, "I can deffinatly smell gas, you need to look for it, go on, blah, blah, blah". So I went back on to the landing, and yes there was a smell. So at midnight last night, im pulling up floor boards on the landing checking gas pipes, and yes, there was a leak. Shut the gas off. Called the Gas board out, and give them there due, as I had all the boards up, he sorted it. But, I still feel really bad inside that my family were in danger, and I didnt really listen. I dont know if your aware, gas isnt poiseness anymore, but it will make you ill.

From now on, im having my system checked 6 monthly, and for all of you who hav'nt, do it!! I dont know how long it's been leaking, and I know the leak was minimal, but as a smoker, it was a bomb waiting to go off!!

It's one of those thing's you read in the paper, knowing that it wont happen to you, it can, it happened to me, get it checked, please!!

On the up side, kids are of school, and im off work for the day, so its a day with the family, It could have been the first of many days without them!!

not sure i understood any of that? so 30 people a year die of carbon monoxide

per year, (though id dispute that and say more) ONE IS TO MANY

recently in our town two teenagers died, and the girl was pregnant:(

i think you'll find Shunter was giving everyone a wake up call, so were you saying don't bother with six monthly checks cos only 30 people die??

yep more people die on roads, but ive never seen anyone die in their own bed in their car:(

and as Shunter had a gas leak, it could have wiped out a whole street

taxis have to have tests every six months, and i spend lots more time in my house than i do in a taxi

and as they say a corgi aint just for christmas but all year round :nelson:

Gas in the uk is safe ish once a year is ok. Use Corgi installers you will be more than safe On my life. Don't you pay for what you get. Would I let my Zed got to a yts 16 year old kid ?? No, don't do that with your boiler. Can give you more detail if you have 5 years to learn but I think you will filnd once a year is ok for gas boilers, 6 months for oil if you have a big one on pun intented.

P.S. Did you see the bus on T.V. today ?? 30 injured not good no TV on 30 people injured by gas boiler serviced by corgi installer !!!! ie be safe but don't go OTT. chill ladds

 Don't phone me if your zed does not work. But if your boiler heating is a prob. Call me on 07775633561 (247) Free advice for all of the Zed club 24 years exp free of charge. How many times do you get that from a plumber ?????????????????

Billy, this was posted as a wake up call, and I dont like someone trying to put this thread into some sort of after midnight, few pint's on board, debate.

I posted it because if I save one person's life, or, save a Christmas from being ruined, then I'll be happy.

The point seem's to have been missed, that gas leak could have killed my family, could have killed next door, dont go telling me about death's on the road, believe me, I could start a whole new thread on that!!

I appreciate your trade Neil, and I appreciate the efficency of the gas fitter who sorted this for me, but I would have rather had received the benefit of your knowledge, in a ledgable, understable way, as apposed to a free advertisment from yourself.

And for the record, in the intrest of safety, im more than willing to pay for a service 6 monthly

you can service your boiler once every six months if it gives you piece of mind. Glad you were all ok. If in doubt call some one out ie Corgi or transco.

All the best mate.

i think you need to go back and read my post m8

me saying "i think you'll find Shunter was giving everyone a wake up call,"

sort of gives it away, and me also saying that to NM that i didnt agree with him that 6 monthly checks wern't needed

as as i don't drink ive no excuse for reading what i wrote correctly

as its something I HAVE experience of m8, SAFETY FIRST,

where gas and electric etc is concerned i'm ultra paranoid

ive lived in this house (brand new) about 4 years

and before that another house for 7 years

the house before that my lad who is now 12 was only a baby

and LUCKILY i got up in the middle of the night to make him a bottle

and we could smell smoke, couldn't see anything until i walked up the stairs and the whole of the ceilings were full of smoke

quickly getting the kids up, got them and us outside with what we were wearing, i then went back to see what was going on, couldn't see anything until i opened a cupboard where the central heating was,

THE MINUTE i opened that door, flames lept out, and within minutes our house was gone, and everything that was in it, as this was january

all the kids presents went,

learnt a big lesson, as no insurance, BUT it turned out it was the fault of the council employed CORGI service engineer, who put an oversized fuse in the plug, and failed to service it properly

so we did manage to get everything replaced after sueing them

but i swore never to live in a council house again, never to be without insurance, and to make sure for safety reasons EVERYTHING in our house

was 100% safe, lol come to our house, if all the sensors etc we have installed went off at once, we would get locked up under the noise abatment laws,

and most important never rely on someone else for my familys safety:(
