Off side dip light doesn't work!

After loosing the right bulb last week, I decided to go and get a new pair of those lights with a blue tint to them. You know, the ones that they have on the new cars nowadays.

Anyway, got the old bulb out, connected the new. NO JOY!

Checked the fuse, looks ok - OH POO!!

Anybody have any ideas?

I'm going to get the test light out and check for current but of there is none there, where do I go from there. Is there a relay logically before the fuse that I should check?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Right!

Have done the power test and there is power going all the way to the bulb.

Have tried both of the 2 new bulbs and still no joy. The elements looks ok.

So is it the bulbs or is it something else. Could it still be the relay if there is power at the bulb end?

I've even tried a test while the new bulb is connected. The voltage is there but no illumination occurs.

Help guys.

Eh ?

Is yours UK or Jap spec ?

Which earth are you using to measure the voltage at the bulb ?

Has the one one the headlight dropped off ?

Mine is UK spec.

I've tried earthing from one of the strut bolts and even from the connector itself.

All that has happened is that the bulb(I think has popped - element has a break).

I guess it begs the question, can the relay be at fault even though there is power at the end of the bulb?

Is the bulb itself earthed when it's sitting in its holder?

Mine is Jap spec and there are two wires that go to the bulb. I believe the UK spec ones earth the body of the bulb through the holder and consequently only have one connection.

If there is power at the bulb, then the relay is probably not at fault. And if there is a break in the filament - the bulb is screwed.

So could it be that the new bulbs are not compatible?

I've never heard of that before. frown.gif

It could be that both bulbs you have tried are screwed and you (like all zed owners wink.gif ) are looking for major faults when it could be something as simple as the bulbs - Exactly what I would do hehe.

On UK spec the bulb earths thru the holder on Jap spec the bulb needs a wire soldering to it, you piss around for ages trying to solder it, screw it up and wish you'd bought a Uk car LOL.

Well I do.

In fact I just drive with front fogs only as I cant see where I am going otherwise.

Blooody Z headlights.

Cos mate everythink points to earth return failure, the fact of two new bulbs been duff and you having power to the bulb leaves earth return the only possibility,However dependant on the tester your using you may be been misled by it, if it is a not a volt meter so not giving an actaul figure reading, some bulb type testers can light up on very low voltage or even in a high resistance circuit that would notr light a higher wattage headlight bulb. Also as said previous the earth return is via the headlight assembly on Uk cars so would not expect it to work out of the headlight.Try attaching a seperate earth to the bulb assembly as a test with a known good bulb,if it works the headlamp unit earth is duff and needs replacing in a convenient place.Other than that can meet up or come to my house and test it out for you no probs.
