freebie and Z 2 words that are not usually in the same sentence...:)

http://www.fairladyfan.com/PalmZ.html

came across this link on 300zxclub.com, no where near as useful as Conzult but it is free!

nice when the Z community give freebies to the rest of us :)

Not wanting to sound too critical of "freebies" but several observations:

1. the guy can't spell to save his life ... doesn't inspire confidence in his programming capabilities (this is IMHO only)

2. you get what you pay for ... if it's free it's probably not worth it ...

3. in the guy's own words "you need a ConZult ... to make this work"

4. from our own experience of porting the monitoring and data logging functions to a palm O/S - it will not work on all hand held devices and requires a different interface/programming for all different types/brands of hand helds

Other than the above I think he's been creative and probably has a product worth downloading but only after a lot of further development - as it stands at the moment I don't think you'll get much use from it.

Please note that all the above observations, comments and thoughts are made in my opinion and do not reflect those of this forum.

Cheers!

Dan

It has been the best because I fell in love and have not looked at another car the same way sense!

Jeeeeeee-bus! Its a wonder he managed to get the program to read anything from the since-ors [/sarcasm]

oh! and are 300zx convertables a new range from Ikea?

sorry, spelling like that really gets my goat!

There is a korean hacker called coolfrog, he was arested for getting into lots of places he shouldnt. Hes dydlexic and ranked in the top 5 hackers in the world. So much naffing not being able to spell and program. the rest of your arguments are ok. but on that your way wayw way fooking way off base mate

lol chill man, no ones having a dig at dyslexia & surely that doesn't stop him from running a spell checker?

And where does it mention he's dyslexic?

If I had a palm I'd run it! I mean even if it was programmed by Ronald McDonald, where's the harm, as is mentioned, it's free and you have to appreciate the effort he's went to do it in the first place!

 :)

Well Danny and Goit,I think opinions like yours are best kept to yourself. All you have done in my eyes is make your selves look petty minded. The Guy has tried to do the Z community a service and for no cost to anyone, which stands alone as a very kind jesture .From little acorns mighty oaks shall grow.........Vinz

LOL!! wish i never posted now!

like i said - its FREE!

theres loads of good freeware out there & who knows how far something like this may be developed.

hats off to the guy, crap spelling or otherwise (IMO) :)

Same! Only havin a wee bit o' fun at his expense but I do admire the effort he went to do it in the first place!

I was going to edit my comments but I'd rather apologise if I offended anyone with Dyslexia!

Where's the eating humble pie smilie? :D

Some of his typo's are funny mind you! 'promiss'. I knew a promiss once, then the wife found out... :x:

I'll get me coat :D

Is it a Dyslexia problem, or has it been translated?

Looks to me more of a translation than spelling.

Just a thought, but 'hats off' to him anyway.

Although it's not of any use to me, as I don't have a palm pilot (or whatever you call them) and have no intention of getting one either. A conZult and a laptop will do for me :D When the money is right ;)

Jeez, chill guys ...

I did not think about dyslexia at all when writing my initial comments so for that I apologise. I did not mean to offend anyone with any of my comments. It [dyslexia] is a fair point and I apologise ... can't think of everything 24hrs a day ...

LOL!! wish i never posted now!

Wish I never posted either!

Points taken Vinz (re: little acorns - mighty oaks and service to Z community). However, I think I was fairly diplomatic in my observations - I could have been a lot more "direct" which no doubt would have been taken completely the wrong way. I'm sorry if I make myself look "petty minded" in your opinion but I do have a certain practical knowledge of the development of the ConZult and any other similar devices. And it is from that perspective that I was writing my comments. If you look at the guys website you'll see that 95% of the screens he's programmed do precisely nothing. You still need a ConZult to get any feedback displayed using his software and by his own admission it may not work on different handheld O/S's. From our own practical experience (and I stated this in my initial post) each differen handheld O/S requires different programming. This is not only an expensive and time consuming effort, it is also misleading to imply that this software will work across a wide range of handheld devices. For that specific reason DTA has stopped development efforts on porting the ConZult software to PDA level at this time. There are too many O/S variants out there to make it a viable business proposition. I realise that this guy is doing it for free but how useful is a free thing if it doesn't work on 98% of its intended devices?

I'm not having a dig at you Vinz (or anyone else for that matter) I hope that is clear. Just clearing up a couple of misunderstandings/misinterpretations. I hope this post won't be misinterpreted although I have a sneaky suspicion that I'll regret posting this as well in a couple of hours ...

Like I stated before, it's a kind thing to do but I'm still left wondering what practical use this software holds in its current state. And that, for me anyway, is the end of the story.

Have a nice day all!

Dan (gets coat for quick exit but sticks around to watch the fall-out ...)
