I need a car alarm (got Cat 2 Immobiliser already), mainly just so I have remote central locking, and I can make beepy noises in supermarket car parks ;)

tbh Im not too bothered about how effective the alarm is against theft, becuase the car is never really left anywhere its going get stolen, except my house and there are various other reasons why it would'nt get stolen there.

There are lots of cheap ones (under £100) on ebay, with various fancy features including Pagers, LCD displays, remote start and the like...but what about fitting ?

Are they pigs to fit yourself, and would I need to take it to an Alarm specialist anyway for fitting ? How much would fitting cost ? Would they have any problems with fitting an Alarm they do not sell themselves ?

I knew someone who knew his electronics/electrics. He fitted it himself but it never seemed to work correctly which made me think he got what he paid for unfortunatly :(

Vijay

as vijay says m8

don't skimp on the fitting, nothing like a good clean tidy install

and trouble free, try these guys, alarmed all my cars and never had an ounce of trouble, AND knows his stuff, for that bit extra your gonna pay for an alarm

this one is supplied and fitted at your home/work

or if you want all the bells and whistles they do some boss alarms;)

Nothing personal billy but clifford have got a bad rep amongst car alarm installers, in fact one I know of sticks a surcharge on clifford alarms becuase there is a high chance of him revisiting the car due to the alarm going wrong!

nothing personal taken m8, my 2nd name aint clifford lol

i can only go on past experience (not had the alarm i linked to)

but had two of the avitals fitted (one to my Z)with remote start, window closure, paging, anti-hijack, tea making lol etc etc and 12 months on no problems,

he installed a toad on my wifes new car last week, so best one for the car at the time, and as i said the install is one of the most important parts of the alarm, and i certainly wouldn't be paying someone extra for possible problems later on, shit if people did that nissan would make a fortune

im no installer, so give them a ring for the best advice, if an alarm is crap they WILL tell you;)

Oh yes! mine was fitted, the next day it was imobilised, and 3 weeks to get a fitter back out, he checked it and all was ok, then it messed up again, so another 3 weeks, then the guy did'nt turn up, so 2 weeks later that guy did'nt turn up. the another week one turned up played with the alarm remote for 10 mins then was on teh phone for 20 mins and then sayd i need a new unit and to call them and arrange fitting ffs. told him thats what he was supost to do that day and he said hes not the clifford fitter  so i got hacked off with it and rewired it so i could use the car then finaly got a new unit and the guy did'nt mind me removeing all the imob parts to use the car. as he was really hacked off with the service i got from them.
