Do any of you NA owners ever wish that you had got a TT instead???

And if any TT owners are looking do any of you wish that you'd got an NA instead???

Or do NA owners "upgrade" to TT after a while???

At the moment I'm happy with my NA- quick, noisy and used everyday.

I really love my NA. In about 8000 miles (in 8 months) I've only wanted a TT twice, once when a BMW 3-series out-dragged me on the motorway and once when a Boxster also out accelerated me in a straight line.

I've driven a TT and plenty of fast motorbikes so I'm no stranger to quick stuff.

When I'm on here I do sometimes wish I had a TT though! And when people say "ooh, I like your car isn't it a twin turbo?"

After the turbo went in my 200SX and cost a flippin fortune to fix I swore I wouldn't have another second hand turbo car... I can't fix it myself and I always seem to get ripped of by garages.

I guess with all the support on the forum you could sort knackered turbos for reasonable money though.

Maybe I'm just trying to convince myself and prop up the resale value of my NA .... but I think if I really wanted more power I'd just nitrous my NA.

You'd think a NA would cost less to insure too but I bet it doesn't as insurance companies are grasping *******.

Sod it... I love my NA!

I'm going the other way now. Sooo pissed of with lag that I just want that instant response you can only get off an NA engine.

Just it's going to be 4.5l with 8 throttle bodies :D :D

It's easy to see the big numbers off TT cars and assume it makes them better but the fact is that turbo engines can't match NA for driveability.

imo no comparison, if you can afford to run its TT

normal telly or plasma

tumble dryer or twin tub

normal monitor or lcd

zx or toyota (yep that was a daft analagy, toyota :nelson: )

BUT if your only using the car for limited mileage, then i suppose n/a is

sensible, they still look the dogs b******* modded, and can sound wicked

as above could be worse you could own a toyota

NA for me--cos I.m tight

I have said this loads of times, but I loved my NA. I have driven TT zeds (fairly briefly) and other TT cars and I would say that nothing feels like the whoosh when the turbo comes on. I used to drive a 2.5l TT Soarer and it always shocked me when I looked at the speedo and thought bloody hell, sixty and it seemed I had just started. It was also an auto so it was dead easy just to stick your foot down and feel the take off. On the motorway it was well fun, I always felt I had TONS more in reserve, and I (felt I) could over take ANYTHING I wanted.

I felt that too many saloons, even down to stuff like ST24s and Audi estates and V6 calibras etc etc had the same kind of performance as my NA, but for me the big difference was getting the manual NA up to 5k revs, hearing the engine and knowing that's when it came into its own. I was always thinking I should have got an TT and I drove the NA like I was still in the soarer- hitting 3 and a half k revs and wondering why there wasn't a big push like with the turbo. When I let my arse hole go a bit more relaxed and said what the hell and started driving the car and pushing the revs it was a TOTALLY different experience. When I even started to let the arse dangle out of corners (a little) I felt even better. I think the NA needs to be pushed up nearer the limit to enjoy it to its full potential. Now this is why I like the idea of a VTEC so much like an NSX or S2000. I heard a little S2000 going past (being revved like it should- I hear so many of them being driven even more granny than I do) and it sounded lovely with the revs going up and up. Kind of like my NA sounded when you properly gave it some. I would only ever have a manual non-turbo though. TT knobheads who say stuff like why have cotton when you can have silk don't know what they are talking about. ;)

Oh yes, did I mention I wanted my NA back :D

I'm going to buy another NA.

But I don't really know what I'm talking about. Just know I liked an NA and you don't NEED to go at 150 to have fun.

I want my ****ing car back

I seriously don't think a TT is more expensive to run than an NA. I think it 'potentially' could be, but the cost of sorting out turbos could be the cost of something else major in the NA It could be expensive whichever car you drive. I liked the fact that an NA has less- no HICAS, no turbos, more of a direct drive. Insurance for me was the same for either.

Perhaps (a bit like TheDarkSide) NA owners could be TheTightSide...(sounds a bit like 'light'?).....I'll get me coat...

Are you really going to do this? what engine will go in it? and would it be a nightmare to keep running with a transplanted engine, or is it no big deal. Another car I thought would be fun would be something like an MG RV8- tiny car, V8 engine- or are they no good?

You don't have to cry about not having a TT. This is a video of a friend of mine that swapped his zed engine for a LS1 corvette engine mated to a camaro 6 speed tranny. This could be your answer to some bad ass V8 power. You will have to excuse his lack of putting the hammer down, but he just worked out all of the bugs and he is still getting used ot it. A later video is in the works.

Yeah, going to use the nissan VH45DE engine from the Infiniti Q45. Should be no big deal to keep running. Going to go for Hi comp pistons, racier cams and throttle bodies. Should see ~450bhp hopefully.

Will also reduce the overall weight of the car and as it's lighter at the front, the weight distribution should be better too. Never know, I might end up with a Z that actually corners!

I have both and I would choose the N/A over the TT everyday of the year. Higher compression engine, sweet exhaust note, instant power from 1.5k through to 7k, starts and stops like it was designed to, higher mpg, very reliable, less engine heat, you don't have to plant your foot to the floor to overtake someone, no tubs (yipee).

If it wasent for the fact that I have prommised someone my N/A, I would keep it over any TT. As it happens Iam now selling both due to bad timing. When I do get another Z it will be another N/A SWB SlickTop.

Snap.

I genuinely do think the NA is a good car. People just assume you got a TT because you are poor.

.

Rich I wanted your car mate. It really was a beauty. I'm also very interested in seeing how John gets on with this convertion. Having spent all the money I've spent on my car and engine I spend all my time worrying about what if the bloody new turbos go pop. So if they do and anything happens to this engine I'm going to go for the small block 5.5 V8 Ford, because its been used quite a few times in the Z. Its about half the weight of the Z lump + there are supercharger kits at less than a grand to make em around 500+bhp.
