Experiencing a strange problem with my newly aquired zed...

There is a creaking noise coming from the front Drivers side suspension area, which I can hear quite badly at low speeds (under 30mph).

It sounds like a Suspension Spring creaking under load as it travels down the road, but my other guess is some sort of bushing.

However the weird part is that the problem is very intemittent, in that it will creak for the whole journey somewhere, but once parked up, and then I make journey back home..it wont do it at all...but next time I drive somewhere it will do it the whole journey again. It even stopped doing it for 2 days before starting again.

Does'nt seem to matter if its first thing in the morning or not, or if there wether is colder or warmer (not that were getting much warm weather currently), that I have noticed.

Does its symptons give anyone any hints to what it could be ?

mine does the same mate

Happened fairly recently - intermittant too.

Are you sure its not the bonnet sqeaking? ;)

My bonnet and boot squeak like a mouse with it's balls in a vice, I havn't got round to searching to see if there is an easy solution yet, I just went out and bought a 15" Sub to drown it out lol

LOL :D

The rear catch is adjustable - although quite often one or more of the bolt threads is stripped which makes it impossible to clamp it tight enough, so it just comes loose again LOL. The boot sqeaks because it is not sealing tight enough...

The bonnet is an easy fix, wrap some insulation tape around the 'hoop' on the bonnet that goes in the catch. You need to build it back up to its original thickness - it just wears out a bit over time. You'll see what I mean if you look at it ;)

Ahhhh nice one, thankyou very much. I'll do that tonight

I had the same and spraying WD40 on the upper link arm bushes cured it.

Its definatly more of a "Creak" than a "Squeek". I will do the bonnet catch trick and try spraying all the bushes I can see with WD40, and see how it goes.

Cheers guys.

Maybe worth checking the condition of the gasket where the front struts meet the suspension turrets as well.......

My bonnet occasionally creaks (in addition to the usual squeak from the catch!) and I found it to be wear in the hinges. Periodically covering them with vasoline does the trick.

hiya guys, my car has the same squeak. but only since i lowered the car, but i forgot to replace the gaskets between the struts and chassis.

any one know where i can get some new gaskets cheep ???

Are you a budgie? :D Cheep cheep ;)

Try MJP in traders section on this site :)

I still get that creak and I changed the gaskets when I changed my shocks :(

My creak which sounds exactly the same as yours was one of the bushes in the front upper link arm. It drove me mad. My car was in for some work with SE and they tried to say it was the bonnet catch, then they replaced the top mount in the strut, then soaked everything in 20 gallons of WD40 but still there and I managed to trace it to the upper link arm. Why SE couldn't find it is beyond me. Anyway, bought some new ones, easy to fit, and hey presto.

My car has exactly the same squeek, gets worse once the car is hot. I just replaced all the springs and dampers (was going to do that anyway!) and expected the noise to go away. But it didn't. I am now 90% sure it is coming from a worn out top camber adjustable link. There is loads of compliance in it and all the grease has been spat out of the bushings. I agree, a bit of WD40 on the link temporarily alleviates the problem, but look at worn out upper link bushings.

Similar problem too. I beleive following a recent MOT that the upper link arms are of particular concern on the Z and also the Primera and are noted as being a problem area andparticular attention should be paid to them at MOT. Thats only what i've been told though. Suspect lowering car without adjustable upper arms adds to stress and waers them quicker. Another job for the winter... if i can ever fet motivated to leave the warmth and comfort of the sofa for the cold and damp of the garage !

Mine has been doing it too,

A soaking of wd40 and all bushes have kept the wolves from the door for the time being.

sorry chaps really basic question, mines doing it too..how do i get to them (driver side front) to WD 40 em?

this cold weather seems to be kicking the sh&t out of my poor motor

You may have torn bushes on the strut. I had this problem and my fear was confirmed when I had a new one installed.
