Does anyone know which JWT ecu I need to buy from Stillen to work with UK fuel? They have 2, a Federal emmissions version and a California emmissions version (which i guess is 'greener' / leaner). Will the federal one work with UK fuel, like Optimax? I see some people on here use them but I wasn't sure if it is a JWT map written specifically for UK spec cars and fuel.

It would be the 'federal' one you need. The California one is tuned specifically for their strict anti-pollution laws using the air-eated fuel.

Ok thanks again! I'll see what GetGreddy comes up with and go from there. Any positive / negative feedback on either ecu's would be appreciated. One thing I did notice, is that the JWT ecu claims to increase boost, but I though this was only possible with bleeds / boost jets / controllers etc. Can the boost be software controlled from the ecu itself? I'm a bit confused now...

JWT ecus are commonly offered/sold with accompanying jets. im no expert but id imagine the ecu by itself would be able to up the boost a little, but the jets would really open her up, so to speak. :D

Nope ;) The only control the ECU has over the boost level is via the boost control solenoids - which means all it can do is 7psi ('safety boost') or 9psi regardless of the make of ECU.

 

The only way to raise boost is with boost jets/bleed valves/boost controller :)

I haven't dug around yet to see where they go, but I guess they are connected to a T piece in the wastegate actuator and are bleeding some air off?

Actually.. no, it's t'other way around :) When the solenoids are open (bleeding air) they bleed part of the air pressure from the actuator lines back into the intake system which raises the boost pressure. When the ECU wants to put the car into safety boost it closes the solenoids (the solenoids have a permenant +12v feed and the earth goes via the ECU) :)

More than likely - they may be teed together so that both actuators use one bleed - that's how SE do (or did) their cars IIRC as otherwise it'd be really hard to set the boost to the same level on each turbo.

The mod was done by SE a few years ago, but there are definitely two bleed screws, one on each side. I want to fit an electronic boost control soon, so it'll all be coming out anyway. So the SE version still uses the stock boost solenoids, but runs an extra bleed off the wastegate actuator instead of a jet in the actuator line?

 

When I fit the boost control I want to replace the whole actuator line so the car has about 7psi with the electronics turned off. This is what I read on the installation guide online, it said that there are still small boost jets in the standard actuator lines, and that once you remove the boost solenoids when installing an AVCR for example, the 'natural' boost would be about 9psi, not 7psi. Is that a big job to reach the actuator lines on the turbo?

£150 sounds reasonable! Sorry for the delay in replying, just got back from LA with my new brakes ;) I'll let you know about the ecu after I've spoken to Chris at GetGreddy. The JWT eci is a lot more money, but I don't really know what the differences are between the two options until I've spoken to him. Have you been running the ecu in your z? Any feedback, good or bad would be appreciated. I'm running a stock ecu with about 12psi at the moment. And worried about it! :(

12psi on a stock ECU is fine, as long as the timing is set correctly (ie there is not detting) and you use decent fuel. I ran mine like that for about 2 years.
