200SX turbo help

this is my sons car and i'd like a second opinion if anyone would be so kind....

Symptoms. No smoke first time you start it, rev it gently no smoke, rev it higher and keep it there and smoke pours out. Boost it down road and it smokes. Looked into the pipe from turbo to FMIC and its full of oil, only done 30miles since FMIC fitted and all pipes were spotless. Even leaks oil out of plenum chamber. Breathers are very clean, and I run a catch tank anyway. Take the oil filler cap off and not a bit of smoke or anything. Dip stick is spotless, rad water clean. What do you guys think, I think turbos had it.

what do you think?

many thanks

That sounds like a cracked piston to me although it would be blowing the dipstick out more than likely, since you'd have excess crankcase pressure. One check is to remove the dipstick slightly and try again - does it still smoke?

Thanks for the reply, I have not taken the stick out, but if I remove the oil filler there is zero fumes presure etc, just as it should be. And as I said the pipes from the turbo to the cooler and then to the plenum are now well coated with oil. I see no way the oil can get into these pipes apart from the turbo. Do you agree?

Yes unless the breather feeds the intake of the turbo (like on the Z), in which case, crankcase pressure blows oil from the crankcase, through the breather, into the turbo ;)

If there's nothing from the filler, I'd agree its more than likely turbo - have you tried reving it with the filler cap off?

Breathers are clean as new, we cleaned them, and are not connected to the intake anymore so its not them, yes, revved it without the cap and its OK. It did have the breathers connected into the pipe from airfilter to turbo, when we removed them there was no difference to the oil. Bad news is the Saab FMIC blew up last night, I "think" the oil mist from the turbo ignited. Doesnt help that he is 18 and likes to thrash it even when its poorly, remember those days? Its a T3 not thr standard T25, I have heard and read that T3 dont need rebalancing fr some reason, have you heard this?

Any turbo will need rebalancing  Do T3s not spin or something? Its sounding like a knackered turbo by what you say, not too bad a job on a 200sx though ;)
