HELP

Ive just been and picked my new 1990 turbo z up from the docks. 1 slight problem, the headlights dont work. I was just wondering whether anyone could help me.

What type of bulbs do i need to buy, and what is the best way to get into the casing to put the bulbs in.

Also i seem to have some wild turbo gauge, that instead of going to +14 psi, it goes to +7 something else, +7 mm hh or somethin, i dunno.

Anyway any tips on the lights would be great, ooh and any tips on installing a rear fog light, i assume it needs one to pass the mot .

appreciate the help......

Ben,

Welcome the the expensive world of Z ownership biggrin.gif

Try this for details of changing the headlights over to UK spec bulbs: http://www.300zx.co.uk/tech/Japbulbpics.htm

This link for rear fogs: http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/ubbforum/Forum1/HTML/003464.html

If the car hasn't been converted for the UK you are going to need a fuel filler neck restrictor to pass the MOT: http://www.northwestimports.co.uk/conversion_kits.htm

The car will probabally still be limited to 112mph, as is required in Japan, with the instruments all reading/calibrated in Kms, search the forum for info about this, there are different ways of resolving this.

Does the car also still 'bong' to warn you of your speed? There's been a write up about removing that as well.

If there is a radio fitted and you're not going to replace it straight away then you'll need a band expander so you acn pick up UK radio ststions other than Radio 2!

Good luck

Tim

yeah cool bananas man.

I had huge problmes untill i realised i was trying ot convert the wrong bulb from uk to fit the jap spec cars.

Thanks To AZ (the man) for fitting mine.

The boost is just read in a different manor ie. bar http://www.300zx.co.uk/rides/300z/boostconverter.exe litle boost convertor for you

mine had just come off boat when I got it but luckily it passed via a dealer...

-7 +7 is the jap equivilant of the 14 scale

Warren,

Your boost converter needs updating mate. Jap cars are measured in n x 100mmHg (Hg is the symbol for mercury).

700mmHG is approx. 14psi or 1 bar.

(And I did say approx. before anyone gets pedantic with decimal places, because the standard gauge just ain't that accurate !)

Have you checked the fuses located in the footwell of the drivers side.

If the bulbs are blown, then the UK ones won't fit. Try one of the suppliers on the links on the left or you can make them up. (See the tech section on the parts needed to make them up)

The gauge is mmhg -7 to +7 wheras the UK ones are in a different scale but mean pretty much the same.

Most jap import owners wire in one on the brake light clusters to become a fog light rather than fit an after market one. Mine is wired up with an illuminated switch and it passes MOT's OK.
