being as a speed sensor for an manwell seems rarer than rocking horse sh*t second hand.I was wondering

does anyone know the max and min voltage or resistance the speed sensor passes to the speedo

Best way to check is take the sensor out of the gearbox and check for 1volts to 5 volts when spinning at normal finger speed, incidentally the voltage is AC not DC.

If that is ok, connect back in to the wiring loom but leave it out of the box, take the cover off the speedo binacle, unclip the speedo input connector ( midlle one of three, but more to the left hand side) identify the green/yellow speedo wire and check for the same voltage between that cable and earth, this will check out the loom for you, if still ok then the next item would be either any speed delimiter or the speedo head itself, incidently if you leave the speedo conected and do the test ( will need to cut into green / yellow wire) and put the ignition on the speedo should move as you check the signal to it at the same time if not the speedo head is faulty....Phew!! bit long winded but makes sense when your in there.hOPE THAT HELPS

yep that helps, cheers jeff, I assume that the rotation speed of the sensor is directly proportional to the rotation speed of the prop shaft, do you know the gear ratio of the speed sensor to prop shaft by any chance.

thanks

kierash,

Sorry i do not know the direct gear ratio of the sensor in relation to the propshaft,

if the internal gearing where the sensor meshes into was known it could be worked out I guess.........by someone much brainier than me!
