Bizzare smell

If i start my car up and rev it for a couple of seconds then switch it off, i can hear dripping coming from behind the engine on the drivers side - i think its dripping on to the manifold as its sizzling away - and nothing is hitting the floor.

Also there is a small amount of steam given off that come out of the same place the dripping is heard and it absolutely stinks of some acidic shite

After about 1 minute of the engine being off it stops.

I know its not to clear but any ideas >?

I cant see diddly down there !

I dont seem to be losing water, or fluids - but im obviously losing something!

thanks for any help

I had this problem when i first got the car and it stopped - now its started again, and it sounds worse. I know my air con pump is apparently broken but this would affect this surely? I dont even use the air con

It will be a water pipe leaking, probably at the back of the engine or perhaps

under the plenum. Have had loads of problems with mine, you've just got

to find offending rubber pipe and replace it.

The reason it only happens when the engine has stopped is there is a build up of pressure in the system because the water is not being cooled anymore.

ooh, the smell is the antifreeze.

There are two ~1" wide coolant pipes down there, you should be able to see them. They go to and from the heater matrix. Mine were replaced not so long ago and it wasn't a big job, just a tight squeeze.

I'm breaking my zed so if you need the pipes PM me :)
