If we had a Zed only track day how much are you willing to pay??

or how much is a good price??

More importantly how many are willing to go??

I only ask because i would love to arrange this but it has been tried before and failed so before i go on any further i want numbers so i will start

Kirbz (me)

Chunk (spoken from his hospital bedside :) )

??

Come on you pussies this is a chance to get on a top track and either take it easy, medium or all out its up to you and more important without any other chavs, scoobies etc etc to worry about just us zed owners.

I am also going to ask the zclub as well as i dont feel there will be enough numbers from here but prove me wrong :)

I will go. Little nervous about oulton because it is a very techinical track.

I would pay £120ish.

I will say yes straight away. My only condition is that it's not a ridiculous distance to travel. Apart from that I'm definately in. :D

I'm in, happy to pay up to £150ish

Funny you put this up. I was thinking of trying to organise a weekend to go do Spa and Hokenhiem. I thought we could meet up with our Dutch & Belguique counterparts on the friday. Get pissed then do Spa Saturday, then head off to Hokenhiem with Dutch and Belguique counterparts meet up with German Z club and do Hokenhiem :hyper: :hyper: .

I'm going to enquire how much and see if I can sort out a deal. would anyone be interested. I'd expect it to be around £200 ish Ferry, accommadation and Track passes for say 20 laps

P.S. Kirbz I'd be up for a track day amd prepared to pay £100 to £150 U.K

How much do Oulton Park want? I was going to do one last summer with some GTIR boys, a couple of Porkers and assorted so called quick cars at Oulton Park.

That was £100 and you got three 20 minute sessions. I paid and then some tw@t went and parked his car across my bonnet so one of Dave at dpmotorsports customers bought it off me and had a fab day.

I tried a few Trackday organisers and it works out at about £200 - £220 for several sessions but i didnt want this so if we can get enough numbers it will work out cheaper and the only limiting feature will be 36 cars on the track at any one time!! and petrol so none of this 3 x 20 minutes crap were talking all day if you want with a break for lunch of course ;) but for the likes of me who have not done a track day before i would like to break into it gently at first then get braver :) but i dont think a few sessions will suit me.

But i am open to suggestions peoples

At the moment if we booked Silverstone southern circuit for the day and got 30-40 people from ours and the z-club we are looking at about £150ish per person to give you a rough price but like i say i am looking into other tracks as well

I did a track day at Brands Hatch - Indy Circuit. It was open pit-lane which meant you could be in and out all day - or until your brakes gave up - like mine did :D

I paid £189 plus £20 for a session with a circuit instructor and another £20 for a helmet as I didn't have my own (no jokes please).

All I can say is that it is the BEST time you could possibly have in a Zed !! I am defintely IN for this - provided it's a reasonable distance as if I break it I will need to get it home somehow.

I like the idea of Z only but it is interesting to see how our 'old' cars compare on a track against some of the modern stuff. I more than held my own on track, only being spanked by Westfields, Caterhams and the 'specials' like Radical etc. Also some of the Skyline guys were seriously quick but I wouldn't say they were necessarily factory spec though. There was a guy in a BoxterS who couldn't get near me except through the tighter bends but once on the straight I was gone :D

Do it on an airfield - far less chance of anything getting dented and you can REALLY abuse the car to its full potential ;)

Kemble! I'd go there :)

Tis only 10 miles away ;)

Events - car preperation

Although modern cars are built to withstand stresses above those that they will experience on the road, standard production cars are not built with track work in mind. However, there are a few simple things you can do to help ensure the car will come with the extra stresses and go home in the same condition it arrived:

1) Check that your brake disks and pads are in tiptop condition. Make sure if you need to change the pads that you have time to bed them in well before taking to the track (min 100 miles use). Many regular trackday enthusiasts upgrade the disks, pads and brake fluid they use which on top of improving track performance, will also make your car safer for the road. The forum is a good place to ask for advise.

2) Tyres. The actual part of the car making contact with the track needs to be in very good condition and set at the right pressures. There is no hard and fast rule here, as it will be determined by the make of car and the make of tyre, also the track conditions and your own personal preference. Many people choose to increase the pressure by around 10% and find that tyre wear is less of a problem. Some vehicles find increased grip from lowering the pressure, maybe only on one axle. The trick is to check the pressures are even and check them when they are at track temperatures. One thing is for sure though, you should make any adjustments at the track and return the tyres to normal road pressures before you leave.

3) Your engine will spend more time at high revs than ever before, check that all the filters and belts are in good order and pay particular attention to the oil level. Bring some oil with you, as it is normal for an engine to “burn” some during a trackday. Keep an eye on the level during the day keeping it close to or at the max. Be careful not to overfill though. Upgrading the oil to one that can handle higher temperatures is a good idea and some of our most enthusiastic and dedicated members will explain how they change the oil before and after each event!

4) Suspension and steering parts will help define how well your car handles, and hence how comfortable you will feel out on the track. Make sure these parts are in good working order and don’t be tempted to take to the track (or road for that matter) with faulty or worn parts.

5) Bodywork should be in good order, as we don’t want wheel covers (either tie these on or remove them for the event), bumpers and wings leaving your car while you are driving!

6) Make sure that you remove everything from the car that is not firmly fixed down. Pens and soft drinks cans can become lethal projectiles. Make sure you remove everything from the boot of the car too, in some cases this means the spare wheel also, there is always somewhere to keep things at an event, while you are on the track (remember that neither the circuit or easytrack can take responsibility for belongings so leave that PC at home!).

7) Bring some electrical or gaffer tape along and tape up the lights before going on circuit.

8) A simple tool kit is handy to have.

9) Fire extinguishers are not compulsory, and indeed if there is an incident the Fire Marshals will take care of any fire. However, it’s recommended that you purchase an in-car fire extinguisher to keep in the cabin of the car. Make sure it is secure in it’s mounting though and will stay firmly fixed in the event of an accident.

10) Fuel! This sounds obvious, but it’s very important. You will not be averaging 35mpg while on the track, indeed less than 10mpg can be more realistic once you are a little more experienced. Be sure to have at least half a tank of fuel in you car before each session as if you run out on the track your car will be pushed by the marshals to a safe place and left there until the end of the day. Under NO circumstances will you be allowed back on the track, it’s a silly mistake and risks stopping track activity for others.

I've done a couple of single seater days (Brands, Donninghton and Silverston)

At Brands I went out with an instructor in an Audi TT first and think that I got more out of it as a result. Infact I posted fastest Lap of the Day.

P.S There's a curcit on Anglesy thats suposed to be pretty good though its well out of the way.

Ok, i will type this again 'cause my pc had a spac attack and died :mac1:

I was told Darley Moor did track days years ago, you paid £1k (iirc) and you had the track for the entire day.

Now i know they do a lot of club meetings for bikes around here, but I have seen cars on there. Top gear hired it for a day years ago and they had some Morris Travvelers with Fiat twin cam engines blasting around lol.

May be worth a phonecall to see if we can have exclusive access to it for a day......

HTH....Rob.

I dont know about everyone else but i would rather have a zed only track day?? or am i being a snob??

I think it would be good to have a Z only day and you can count me in

as I have never done one before

 Yes please zed only will be good count me in up to £250 ish

I'd be up for a half day track day (my car wouldn't last a whole day) . Donnington do them but have no more for this year.

  • 1 month later...

OK sorry to drag this one back up, but just spoke to our local race team here at work, and they tried to organize a day at Mallory Park for all their sponsors.

All medical staff in attendance, you have as many cars on the track as you want, from 9am till 5pm.

All for the sum of £2,000.

Sounds a lot, but if you split it between only 20 cars thats £100 each for 8 hours blasting. FFS you would use more petrol than that lmfao

There is almost 20 Zeds turning up to the meet tomorrow, so it is not an impossible thing to achieve is it?

I agree, when Chris and I tried to get the Grimsby track day we only needed 25 or so cars and we had about 12 cars coming from the Z club too. Then a whole day of just Zs, with medical staff and for about £30 more a professional driver to drive with us teaching us how to drive.

I'm up for it...

I also did a track day at Brands, though it wasnt open pit. [http://www.easytrack.co.uk]

That day was a sessioned event, you had 20 minutes each hour, grouped by your driving ability

I did about 110-120 laps over 6 sessions in a CRX VTEC, and the whole day cost me LOTS!! (track + tutiion + trackday insurance was something like £310)

Much more than you guys are talking about, so I'm definately interested.

Would prefer Brands Hatch, but am open to others.

Has anyone tried Rockingham, Suposed to be good, and the Bedford Autodrome (Jonathan Palmer) is apparently the business, with NO ARMCO to bash into and loads of different track configurations

Oh, can it be a dry day! LOL

Pud

What about castle combe?? I did a track day there once in my 200sx. Really good ! But it was with all sorts of cars though.

ahhh time to buy yoko a032rs then me thinks !!! im up for that ill bring me mates recovery truck !!!!!
