Well a few posts have got me thinking about my veloved chariots,

Age 17;

1st car a Seat Ibiza 1.5 with a Porsche system engine, wow I thought I was the *****cks, wait for it.........three spokes!! OMG!! a big zorst and a 15 inch jamo in the boot with a dodgy german graphic equalizer flashy light amp thing

2nd car a Onion Ghia, fitted a full RS kit, had piper cams fitted, lightened flywheel so much stuff done to the engine, that infact, it ran worse than ever before, occasionaly would keep up with my friends, hanging S1 RST, but most of the time would splutter and die I briefly bought a R5GTT which I liked for its go kart ability, I didnt like the fact with more than two people in, it would turn into a steaming turb and you could be overtaken by fiat pandas.

3rd car R21 Turbo, heres the piccies

mynewercar1.jpg

mynewercar3.jpg

Man had it fully resprayed, spent enough money with prima racing to open a shop, pitty I forgot about the wheels and left 15 inchers on it lol mind you went like stink 252bhp at the time anf FWD  torque steer anyone?? kept this little guy for three whole years the longest record to date!!!! the things we do when we are young! This car has to win the smallest wheels ever on the biggest car lmfao.

Age 19;

3rd car Cavalier 4x4 GSI2000 not much to say other than very comfy, sounded like a angry wasp wish id never changed the zorst it was embarasing rattly noise, biggest mistake of my life as the R21 was soooo much better beleive it or not. Lowered usual crappy mods, had some bits done at power station in cheltenham who ripped me off on 320.00 for a chip!!! had a staggering 186bhp so I dropped fooking shit loads from the reno, couldn;t stand having a normaly aspirated car.

4th car Nissan 200SX, face lift model, very nice, bought a shit sounding lemans motorsport blow off valve for it and regretted it from day one, it is by far the worst sounding and made peice of shit ever, do NOT buy one!!! did the usual mods.

5th Car Mondeo 2.5v6 st24, not a bad motor, but I got bored and wanted to get a turbo again.

Age 20:

R21 Turbo (again!!!!);

mynewcar1.jpg

mynewcar2.jpg

mynewcar3.jpg

Still beleive it or not, nothing could satisfy the performance and fun of my prev r21 turbo, so I bought another, lmfao, this time I thought i'd do it properly (well for a R21 anyway), 276bhp despite changing nearly eveything on the ****ing car! still, for some reason the torque was was close to the bho figure, meaning the car would spin all the way to third gear. The car was running 20psi for a good length of time, my tron like gear changes bent and buckled various selector rods whilst the awesome pressure kept continuosly blowing off hoses, I spent more times on the side of the road with the bonnet up than any other car, but would I change it? would I fook. Never had one car beat me in a race in the dry. I miss this car.

Age 21

Nissan 200sx S14, wanted another taste of Jap RWD, as frying front tyres and getting no grip 80% of the time started to get tedious. Owned this car four three months, before deciding I prefered my prev S13 and so

Nissan 200sx S13 (pre facelift) some of you know her, she started off a shed and blossomed into a beauty with several thousands pumped into her;

low1.jpg

Not hugely powerful, but, 240bhp was more fun in this than any other car I'd driven.

Age 22

Well I was being a family man so bought ANOTHER modeo, ST24, seems like ill be having two of every car in my life for some odd reason!!!

car1.jpg

Age 23

Nissan 300zx TT

And she's as she is now after a couple of years on her!!

I did have various other cars but these were the main ones that I hold as memerable,

So whats the cars that you loved / hated in your life that you've ownded?

Here goes.....

way back in 1987 at the tender age of 17:

'77 P reg Cavalier 1.6GL MkI - drove for a month until some dozy cow doing her make up whilst driving hit it when it was parked

'78 S reg Cav 1.6GL

Age 18:

'77 R reg Cav 1.9GL sport coupe (Manta look-a-like) Twin Webber conversion, Janspeed 'zaust - fun

'84 A reg Cav 1.8sri - first injection motor. great getaway car :D

'86 C reg Cav 1.8sri - way better than first one which turned out to be a bit rough after I drove it a few months....

Age 19

'85 B reg Manta GTE - excellent car in it's day

'89 F reg Astra 2.0GTE - only 6 monthe old, fast but handled like a sumo wrestler on roller skates. Hit a tree at 60mph (on the roof!!) trying to avoid a head on with some c*nt in an RST on my side of the road...

'88 F reg Cav CDi

Age 20

'89 F reg cav SRi

'90 H reg Cav CDi auto

Age 21

'91 J reg Scorpio 2.0 - worst car ever. Only 6 months old but of the 3 months I owned it, it spent at least 2 back with Ford being repaired as something else broke.....

'91 J reg Cav CDi manwell - back to Vox again as they had been good to me. Kept this one a bit longer, swapped air filter and 'Zaust to make it a bit quicker...

Age 23

'93 L reg Toyota Carina E GTi. First Jap car and never looked back - excellent saloon. 173BHP, 140mph, 0-60 in 7.5 and great handling. Kept it over three years, from 6,000 to 120,000 miles and it never went wrong. Drove like new to the day I sold it. Same clutch, zausts etc - only changed the cambelt, otherwise just routine servicing :)

Age 27

'91 J reg Mk3 Supra Turbo - worthy replacement of the trusty Carina E

Age 29

'93 K reg Mk3 Supra Turbo - a Jap import GT Ltd Targa in black with digital dash. Just like Knight Rider :D. Was my fave car of the lot - fast, handled good and looked cool to.

I couldn't find anything I liked enough to replace it.

So.......

Age 31

Bought a '00 W reg Corsa Sport 1.4 as a daily driver so I could keep the Soop for fun. Couldn't resist driving the Soop daily so gave the Corsa to Julia and we sold her Micra.

Age 33

Finally found a worthy replacement for "K.I.T.T." (as the Supra became known)....

My UK spec 300ZX TT  Definately my best car to date. Nothing comes close to that in replacement terms now.

Although I have just bought a Rav-4 to use for my 50 mile daily round trip to work, to keep the miles of the ZX (only done 76K and I want to keep it low). Now how long before I give Julia the Rav.............

Richard :smw:

BMW E30 320. Not a bad car. Good for cruising. Black. Fitted a full stainless and 17s

18 -

Mk II Golf Gti 8v. Only bought it cos it was cheap. Sold it later

Manta 2L 16v. LOVED this car!! Dolphin grey, swapped the 17s over from my BM. Gorgeous and fast too. Wrote it off though :slap:

Pug 205 1.9GTi. Again bought this cos it was cheap. Done it up and really liked it, then sold it

Renault 19 16v. Bucket of shit!! Only bought it to sell for a profit to help by the 300.

20 -

1990 300zx SWB manual NA. Now 21, still got it and still love it

Manta v8, you got any photos of your Manta?

Nice work fella

Whoops, I forgot a couple too.....

......I had a couple of classic cars along side my every day transport.

I had a 1961 Rover 100 (P4 "Auntie") which my dad handed me when he stopped driving around 1988. He bought it in 1974. I had to sell it as I didn't have the time or money to maintain it as a penniless 18 year old

I also had a series 2 (1975) Jag XJ6 4.2 from 1996 until around 2002. It was dark indigo blue with biscuit leather and loads of polished chrome. Just the sort of car the bank robbers drove in The Sweeney ;)

Richard :D

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Here's mine:

Hillman Imp - two years, two clutches, one gearbox, one rad, anything that could break, did.

Ford Consul Convertible - huge fun, bent in middle when jacked up, lasted till MoT time.

Sunbeam Rapier Convertible - cheap, more fun, didn't quite last till MoT time.

VW van - relatively reliable but rotten; lasted till MoT time.

(Switch to two wheels in mistaken belief that it would be cheaper than four)

Suzuki U50 - horrible little 2-stroke machine

Honda 90 Sports - dinky little fairing and free-revving engine that went for months between rebuilds.

Honda Benly 125 - right nail

Honda CB175 - nice machine; first bike I had that could be relied on to get to Matlock & back.

Honda 250 SuperDream - first brand new vehicle I ever bought!

Honda 400 SuperDream - bit more power and an extra disc

Mini Clubman estate - to accommodate girlfriends, MFI flat-packs, etc

(Accident and slight reduction in number of limbs forces return to four wheels)

Mini Clubman estate auto - got me by

Escort - nice new motor, reliable but ultimately boring

TR7 Auto Convertible - much more fun but prone to rot

TVR Tasmin 350 Auto Convertible - second favourite car ever; 160,000 joyous if expensive miles in 8 years

Old Audi estate - for a few weeks during TVR overhaul

Old Escort - between cars again

Daewoo Nexia - cheap and reliable if pig-ugly, underpowered and blingless

Mazda MX5 - 1.8 manual with push-button operated clutch; great when it worked, PITA rest of time

Old Volvo estate - just to get by. I needed wheels and there was nothing else available. NOBODY pulls out in front of you when you're in one of these, though!

Mazda Eunos - nice little motor, fun & reliable if underpowered

and finally my Zed - the fastest and prettiest of the lot!

my list's not too long!:

1997: knackered Vauxhall Cavalier 1.3. Paid £40, still got ripped off! lasted one week.

1999: Vauxhall Astra 1.3

2001: Vauxhall Cavalier GSi 2000 (damn nice car but rusted too easily :( )

2003: The Z.

My gallery of terrors:

Learned to drive in a Renault 25 V6 at the age of 17. Still have very fond memories of that car and blame it solely for the fact that I can't parallel park anything smaller than a Sierra.

From the age of 17 - 24 I had more crap cars than I can remember including

Another "little" 2.0 Renault 25, 2 x Renault 5s, 3 Escorts, 4 or 5 Fiestas (one of which had Irish plates and I used to get my tyres slashed every weekend), a Chrysler Alpine, a Lancia Beta (gorgeous car), Fiat Panda (worst car I've even driven - it was so bad I reversed it into a wall then dumped it in an Asda car park), a couple of Sierras, 3 Granadas, a VW Golf, some horrid Talbot - I can't remember the model, 2 Peugeot 205s, a Peugeot 405, 2 Volvo 340s, a Volvo 750, etc. Quite a few more than that list, but I've blanked them from memory.

When I was 24, I got my first "good" car, aside from the Lancia - a 2.9i V6 4x4 Sierra. Fantastic fun was had in that. I remember driving down to Cornwall for a holiday, absolutely twunting down the country lanes for the 1st week and a half before being told that most of them were actually lined by a couple of inches of green stuff, then a wall of rock. That knocked a couple of mph off my speed for the remaing few days!

Following the destruction of my Sierra, I swapped a PC I had built for my mate's 2.5 V6 Cavalier which I then instantly swapped (as it was awful) for a 300ZX Z31 NA auto - my pride n' joy for the next 18 months. Took the Z31 for a thrash down in Cornwall too - the most comfortable motorway cruiser I've driven - the seats were much more comfortable than the Z32 ones, and much more legroom.

Had an Alfa 156 2.0 t-spark for a bit from work, then got myself a '91 BMW 525i SE which changed the way I thought about BMWs - I had always hated them, but this was quite powerful and handled really well for a saloon (by that I mean it would go sideways nicely). Fantastic engine in the mid-range.

Eventually I swapped the BMW for an '89 mk3 Supra Turbo, which I still have. Had the bright idea of doing this right at the beginning of December and proceeded to have fun fighting with the back end all through the Winter months. In Spring, I took it to have the brakes replaced and found that the rear tyres were worn down to the cord! Got a lecture from the guy at the garage (rightly so) but all I really remember him saying was along the lines of "Either you're the luckiest bloke about, or are a Schumacher..."

Then it's my beloved - my Z32.

LOL! mujina, I had a left hooker Talbot some fekn thing that looked like an austin princess for a couple of months, was it one of them?

A spot of googling showed me it was a Talbot Samba - utterly detestable! It had the raw acceleration of a continental plate, changing gear seemed to be something you found yourself doing out of habit, rather than necessity and I am convinced it was called the Samba 'cos it rattled so much it could pass as a set of maracas.

I didn't even manage a couple of months in it - I changed it straight away for a Volvo 340 - that's how good it was!

  • 9 months later...
